Dress sense.

not everyone's a big star with a personal stylist and a giorgio armani endorsement. but i do agree i hate people who over-wear band t-shirts especially those very poseurish people who go round in leather jackets, spikey blets and slayer t-shirts. really irritating and gets the attention of the cops.

heh i never thought clothing was an issue

the last gig i played, i was wearing my BMT platoon polo t-shirt, bermudas and sandals and it did not really feel wrong.

maybe im just a slacker

Whats wrong with that? I think they are jus letting people know their influences and the brands they prefer, which are oso part of the person's personality, i guess. If u look at the foreign bands, u oso see alot of them wearing black sabbath or iron maiden t shirts.

Not anything goes my friends...

Hi guys, im new here. as in really new... just joined 15 minutes ago?

Anyway on this topic on what bands should wear, i think that many many bands in singapore dont have a good dress sense whether they wear black tees with other band's names on them or not. i personally dont really have an issue about the preference to wear tshirts bearing the identity of other bands but the real issue at hand is that the dress sense doesnt go.

Most school based bands and majority of the school of rock bands didnt really bother about dressing according to what they play or dressing to look good. To me, I feel that a band that bothers to dress up is a band that puts in effort into performing and loves performing, thus the willingness to put in the extra time to look good and dress to kill.

I do hope that bands in singapore can provide a holistic performance by having good visuals as well as good sound. It's all part of the package and one cannot do without th other.

how much does a band shirt usually cost? i'm usually too scared to go to the shelf and check. why? i don't know.

i conclude tt the person(visa) who started this thread, is a jabroni. if he doesnt like black shirts bearing slayer, motorhead, cradle of crap or wat so ever, he can walk in the public or wear a shirt tt bears his name, VISA.

ppl can wear wat they want if they want to show patriotism to the particular band. nobody can stop them, not even VISA.

Hmm

Haha surprising Dress Sense is quite a big issue at Singapore Battle of the Bands Semis Round 1 & the judges got heavily flamed by some of the bands who did not get into e finals. Sad case :(

wah do u guys really mind so much about dressing in a gig? now i really dono what the hell i should wear liao

i mean, i don't put hours of thought into what i'm gonna wear for a gig, but we make it a point to try and at the very least not look sloppy. i personally can't stand sandals or slippers in concert, i think they're just incredibly sloppy.

there's a reason why even great musicians like Satriani and successful bands like Taking Back Sunday put at least minimal effort into their appearance, and it's because even though they could probably do a show in pyjamas and get away with it, they respect the crowd. the audience has come to see the performer perform. it's a show, and you owe it to your audience to try give them a show that they'll remember. so you play your music as best as you can, you excite and engage the audience as much as possible so they relate to you and really get into the groove, and you put in at least some effort in your appearance so that your audience doesn't feel like they came all the way there just to watch someone who looks like a homeless guy.

and seriously, i think this applies to uni students here too! it's shocking how some of these kids dress. it's not a bloody wet market, it's an institute of higher learning, a place of academia. honestly, how can students there walk around in slippers and all that and feel ok about it? what happened to the respect for institutions of higher learning? i have never ever seen university students as sloppily and disgracefully dressed as those in singapore. ugh.

i see this as basic courtesy; no need to spend hours or agonize over what to wear, but don't look like you just stepped out of a wet market.

(haha now you're all seeing my conservative side come out)

Absolutely. I would love to see them dress this way in Havard or Yale. lol!

but to be honest,
most bands in singapore look alike.
time for some colour my friends.
everything's black.
getting boring after some time.
hah.
wear some hawaiian batik shirts and pump up metal. \m/
see the crowd go HUH.

Well most people think wearing Black means they're "Badassed" , "Biker" , and real "Tough" . To me, whatever you dress, is just a coverup for what you are not. You wear black to hide the fact that inside you, you're not "bad" or "metalheaded" enough. well. IMO.

Whatever you wear, I'll just call you a poser. When you can rock my head to the beat. Then you're a musician. Prove it to me ;) . Clothes are nothing.

Just wear you own band t-shirt. Free advertising.

With that, anyone know where I can get my band t-shirt printed?

This is a reflection of the student's state of mind. If you come to NTU on Bus 179 in the morning you will find a bus load of silence because the students are all feeling so sian. My friends in arts and soci at NUS dress up nicely but not the engineers in NTU. Life's a drag.
