hmmm... for doubles right was just taught that you just need to get even sounds... pushing or pulling it's quite hard and unnatural...

Tht's why it's also call the Push/Pull or Pull-Out Techniques...and yes It's tougher this Tecniques...but it's really good (can be applied on other Rudiments)....especially when you apply it on Toms which has less rebound as compared to a snare - so the objective in practicing this techniques is to acquire Dynamics in Drumming...a very slow process in development but bear fruits at end of day....cheers Bro
