doing homework before asking

i ve seen so many threads where the starter asks about something and someone very clever either half-replies it or sometimes fully and then adds a "do ur research/homework/laundry before asking" at the end. ever thought that an internet forum filled with so many greatly knowledgeable geniuses would be a good place to do this research/homework? besides if the person is new to soft or what that wouldnt be so welcoming now would it?

give a person a meal, it feed his stomach for that short while in the whole day

teach a person the ways to find a meal, it serve him for life to fill his hunger

welcome got many ways and it depend on both party. The basic culture of an internet forum usually is to observe the culture and read thru the sticky thread. Some time wasted on those will go a long way to ease the life of new people. While everyone is a newcomer once, but the habit of reading and observation is always a good habit before shooting off. And that apply to many things in working life, interaction with people, community etc

imho

Technically, it is true that SOFT is such a place where people can ask for advice.
BUT, one cannot forget the importance of being more independent. A simple google would help, rather than expecting people to spoon-feed you.
Personally, if I have any questions, I would go around doing some research first, and if my questions remain unanswered, or I just need a personal opinion, I'd seek help here..

Anyways PatheinRaindropMoe, I think the correct quote is
Give a man a fish and he'll be full for a day,
But teach a man how to fish and he'll be full for a lifetime..

Something along those lines.. Lol!

Aiyoh, just post a positive reply lah. Doesn't hurt to just add "have you googled it up yet?" or something.. If it annoys then just ignore lor, it's a forum what... supposed to encourage communication, whether they're stupid or not :P
Sometimes people just want to hear opinions, and not filter through every page and ten million chunks of words.... Well that's my excuse anyway. LOL

heh. true true. haha btw i think the real story is give a man a silver coin n he ll want a gold one.. but give him a bronze one and he ll get it right or something

Eh you all funny lah, now talking about coins. lol.
Speaking of which any coin is good for me... k off topic

aiya sage. u always off topic. first currypuff lah then now which coin good for you lah.. tsk tsk... stick to topic lah!

Well, ANYWAY..., in my opinion, a newbie at something should only come to a forum or ask anyone only if he has doubts and at least have fair amount of knowledge of the subject ah.

but then as dear sage has said, there's nothing wrong with asking the noob whether he has googled it yet. cos 1) he may not know there's such a thing. 2) he didn't realise he could do that. 3) he knows that even if he googles, the results are gonna lead him to some forum.

lol

not my fault, I really do like currypuffs... I can eat until get athsma... really

3) he knows that even if he googles, the results are gonna lead him to some forum.

lol

Yesh, like sometimes if ppl google for how to get girlfriends, they end up at soft....

Aiyah, some people just enjoy interacting in forums, behind PC screens and talk and act like a different person unlike their real life persona.

Some people do have dual or multiple personalities and forum discussions are perfect avenues for them to unleash their misanthropic Mr Hydes.

Although sometimes I think some are really just brainless twits.
