I came across this on ebay and even ask the seller a thing or two about it. Is it worth that price? Anyone changed thier guitar caps to higher quality here?

you can't deny the fact that diff cap types does have its own character ...but this usually happens at higher voltage use ..!!

Let me tell you a secret ....you ready !!?

get those cheap ceramic disc ....you will be surprised !!

ceramic disc huh? which shop sell? Just bought a normal one from Davis, don't know if I should buy another...the difference is that big?

What you need from a typical tone control is a nice high bleed off and when the bright higs are cut initially as the pot has started to roll the natural mids will start to shine giving that nice 'honk' which the ceramic does best to my ears !!

Browse sim lim tower ...and look for the big flat disc type.
:wink:

nope...you can buy "one" anytime ....bout $0.50 i think !!

Those on ebay were the early metal paper type that were found on vintage gear thus the mojo !!

On high power amp, cap type makes a huge differance ....

What's the value of the caps? anyhow can ah?
"anyhow" = they don't sell
from 0.1uf to 0.22uf ...experiment and get your value!! :wink:

just my suggestion...
0.1uf for neck
0.1uf or 0.022uf for bridge

one more question from you and i will make sure sim lim will NOT sell you anything !!

:lol:

The job of a 'cap' is to ground, remove or bleed off the treble from the signal. Most single coil pickups use a .05uF cap, while humbucker use a .02uf. The larger the value, the more highs it rolls off. Changing to a cap of different value alters your guitar's tone without hurting anything, since you can always get back to your starting point
