I feel bass players should never try to steal the limelight away from the singer. Vocals carry the song and we should focus on supporting the vocalist, making him shine in every way possible. Keep to the basics and build a solid foundation for your entire band! Working with the drummer properly can make the band sound really tight together. Collective over self!
Though.. Can't help it if the singer really ugly though..

In general, bassist is important in a band as well as the drummer, guitarist, vocalist so on and so forth.
Everyone of them plays a very important role in the band, without anyone of them, the music i strongly suppose will turn out to be crap.
So do bassist get the girls? It all adds up to jealousy ain't it? Who care about it anyway if you are really playing it for passion.
Girls are just like bonus in this situation.

Hi this is my first post..
Anyways, the most annoying ( and funny ) comment i ever got was this.
Guitarist: " Bassist, could u lower your volume? It's a little too loud"
Me: Ah ok! * lowers his overall volume "
Guitarist: " erm, it's still a little too loud"
Me: "No problem.
"
Guitarist : " no seriously, i can't really hear clearly what i'm playing!"
Me : " Hokay. * completely lowers his volume knob down to zero"
Me : "How is it now?"
Guitarist : " ah! much better now. thanks bro"

Hm.mmm ??? My opinion is that whether you are Bassists, KeyBoardists, Lead Guitarists or Drummer - - - Most of the chicks that go Crazy for any of the above is not how good you are playing (cause it's a Band) - - and I myself had seen so many of my friends (playing in a club) who gets lots of chicks are from their - "Good Looks"- that's all the chicks care about...

music is music.. girls are girls.. personally i think that alot of people think that bassists are useless.. but c'mon no bass no music!! same goes for other instruments.. people just do not know how to appreciate bass.. but well.. lets just forget about what those ppl say bout bassist is "nobody play one" and just enjoy what we are doing.. thats the most important i think.. altho the guitarists get the most attentiopn mainly due to the solos that they shred which are pretty impressive.. yea so.. heck all those shit.. music for life!!

alot of these said critics are partially correct...
we must make the distinction between the BASSIST and the BASS
for sure, the bass is important, but that doesn't mean we've not seen some useless bassists in big bands over the years. and this has gone unchecked to the point where people have forgotten what a good bassist sounds like. and then they forget what the bass is for
