read pg 1 of this thread and felt quite true...a bassist really dun receive as much attention as guitarist..for most cases... unless... maybe u slap and pop? most pple arent trained to catch the low sound of the bass... so... yea i have received comments like... "dude.. u stand there play wad? i cannot hear lei.. ur amp got on?" got kinda sian... no motivation... but looking back.. i was standing on stage as if i was in my own world.. standing at the exact same spot.. how can pple notice u like that? so a piece of advise from a not-so-gd, make urself be heard... if u present urself in a confident manner, even if u noob, pple wont know...
sometimes we're just the shady character that just makes the song sound good. ppl may not know. but we're there to make the song sound good. if we aren't there, the song would sound different. play for the passion. if you want th attention, go pick up lead guitar or sing. ppl will hear you better that way.
Unless you can tweak your bass to really stand out from the band.
As long as each element of the band does their part, I will be happy as the band sounds good. No man is an island, every aspect of the band is important.
You can do all the slapping and popping and soling you want, but if it doesn't fit the band, or distracts the audience, than the band doesn't sound good.

seriously, why does this forum have so many threads such as this ? stuff revolving the topic of bassist being important or not, being able to stand out and all or do they get the chicks( what ?!) or what have you.
okay, a lil of it is good for entertainment. but when one gets too persistent it might be a lil irritating and it becomes nonsense. if youre good you'll know what youre supposed to do. so just do it.

Those people who say that bassist are useless and bass is damn easy, they are either losers or posers who think that guitar is the best cause it attracts girls. Bassist rocks the world! Anyone in a band attracts girls, regardless of what instrument they play. No one will be so stupid to focus only on one member in a band, they will definately look at everyone in the band. So.. chill guys.

The question sounds so full of itself... IMO is an egotistically rethroical one too.
If you don't know the qualities that is needed for you to stand out (regardless of instrument) then you should grow up/learn. If you're upset about not getting enough attention, re-evaluate why you're playing music in the first play. If you get upset over ignorant remarks... then dont get mad... either you really don't play well enough or, you can instead enlighten that person.
Worse come to worse... go mess up ur next gig.. you'll be sure to be noticed. If thats what u want. sheesh. :roll:
