distortion

well if your talking about sound, then its subjective. personally i prefer boss distortion pedals. but thats just me.

if your talking about quality and durability then i'd say boss pedals will last. i've had a few for quite a while and they havent failed me, dont know anyone whos complained about that too. as for behringer, i can't really say cos i dont have much long term experience with behringer pedals. only tried them here and there. so yea. :D

is behringer good compared to boss?

No.. the tone , circuitry and consturction = bad :(

I believe the Beh-ling-ar are surface mount components...difficult to mod!!
Now-a-days even some so called boutique are surface mount

Greetings! You could try a Vox Bulldog. 2 channels, vintage and modern. Theres a "voice" knob on the modern channel, turn it up and it'll give u some really heavy sounds.

Run it with a buffered effect though or the pop will be pretty obvious when u stomp/step/jump/press on it :)

mat user..

you gotta start somewhere...
just get yourself a distortion pedal to start with..
get to know how to tweak a pedal..
learn..
once your familiar with the stuff, you would
automatically would wanna look for better pedals.

Haha i see, yeap love the tube tone, prob change it to a EH if the moolah comes in. Peace yea Goose!

the one with the toob ...please dont get me started

What's wrong with the bulldog distortion pedal? Sorry ah.. I dun wanna get you started but I'm just curious on what's the problem with that. I tried it last month and it sounded pretty decent and warm to me.. well.. better than the uber metal that I tried.

Haha personal preference i think, i have one myself kank_39, and i think its great sounding too, but then again one mans meat is another mans poison. Subjective la :D

its just that the tube is more of a gimmick lah.. to make it worst they put an led close to it to make it seem glowing :D

plus soo big :smt011

i am really diggin the new ehx for its size ...eventho i believe its surface mount !!

Yah.. I do agree that it seems a bit wierd that the tube is glowing blue but..er.. I don't mean to dig further.. but out of curiosity.. How do you know whether tubes in pedals, in general, are just gimmicks or not? E,g. Mesa V-twin, Damage Control Pedals (which I don't dig it at all), Highes & Kettner Tube pedals etc etc.

power consumed !! :D

anything below 24v ....yeah some talk abt starved tubes and its suppose to be doin something ...mmm just maybe !!

Mesa V twin... i think it runs on a AClow voltage and then thro a transformer to up the voltage internally inside.

Damage control? I bet my Trappist Monk's Ale that its a lo voltage unit.

Hughes and Kettner... not too sure.

EH... are all high voltage tube pedals. They use a 12VAC adapter then pump into the pedal's internal transformer to up it to 200++ VAC if I remember correctly.

Oh i see.. So the rule of the thumb is tubes require high voltage for optimum performance, which means either they require a high voltage input or an internal transformer. Thanks for the insights.

Hmm.. Maybe those tube-pedals-wannabees should then install a toroidal transformer on the surface of the pedals to prove their true tubiness. No more dispute there I would think.
