Digital & Analog

hmm i was thinking of a good analogy of analogue versue digital.

Analogue = Mee Pok Tar cooked by the meepokman at 132 Meepok At Siglap

Digital = Mee Pok Tar Flavoured Instant Noodles.

Some like the real thing, gotch the real flavour with the sweat and real ingredients i.e analog. haha

But there are ppl who like the instant mee flavoured one, cos it has its own mojo and flavour, so yeah.

the difference between 1 and 0 in

digital : 0, 1

analog: 0, 1 X 10^-100, 2 X 10^-100, 3 X 10^-100

digital jumps from 0 str8 to 1

analog gos through all the infinite values between 0 and 1

in 1 of mi poly modules, the first thing they taught us is the difference between digital and analog

a digital value is like the number of bananas in a bunch, or like grains of sand on a beach

an analog value is like the temperature of a room, or the altitude of an aircraft

ive read quite a lot of comments on analog vs digital. and mostly where anolog purist/elitist argues themselves as being the superior ones over digital. well, im a digital effect user (gt6). wat i can say is that... if it sounds good, its good, digital or not 8)
honestly, i dun think the majority out there can discern the differences when its on record. but if it makes u happy, then go ahead i say :)

ps: hopefully this thread does not become an analog vs digital thingy... theres a million thread out there already bout it. haha

Just note... its all about the feel guys.

We record to mp3, to CDs, no one will know. The audience in a live setting wouldn't know.

But the dude holding the guitar, playing, knows.

At least he better know. ;)

Exactly, well datz the way i did when i bought the pedals in my rig! untill i began seeing this stuff dats Anal is better den Digi and stuff .... only then did the tot spark in my mind!

hmm... how u know whether an effects is digital or analogue ??? never try stompboxes b4 ... juz curious ??? ... i using multi effects

Usually multi efx are digital... Unless like those professionals they custom made multi analog effects into 1...

imo for modulation effects, it doesn't matter if u use digital or analog..i rather use digital for modulation effects coz use have total control on the parameters..

for distortion/overdrive effects, nothing beats the power of tubes..

BUT keep in mind, digital dist/OD effects are getting better and better...higher resolution, higher sampling rate means real sound..with all the nuances and harmonics...this will slowly change the mindset of strong analogue believers.

:)

i believe what that katulistiwa said was quite right ... if i had money i would have been like John Petrucci , Matt bellamy... all this kinda people... and have designeer technology... like jp ...u can see his rack and pedals are all over the place

i believe in the raw power of tube distortion ... analogue pedals can only boost the tubes ... tubes sounds best cooked..

the other thing is rack digital Modulation effects.. are way way cool. u can set them however u like ... add everything... ur in control ... i think hybrid is the best... tube dist and digital mod... but still some things analogue can do digital can't... what digital can do analogue can't ... create ur own sound

the only thing i hate about digital is ... they suck ur guitars original tone... prob i'd like to get a G-force or eventide sometime soon ...

hi i want to know .. how can i know whether a efx is an analog or digital ... can give me example ...

also can i ask u what is tube amp ... what is it like ... adn how can i judge or tell that the amplifier is a tube one ??? sorry don't know about this all stuff ... only know how to play ...

please help me

if u hav both both types of pedals in ur setup, will one affect the other somehow? like would the analog affect the digital or the digital affect the analog? (in terms of function, tone etc) cuz i intend to get a dd3, and i hope i twun interfere with the analogs =X
sorry if it sounds noob, but i btr noe b4 i regret it haha
