Hi guys, i've asked this Q before but never got a firm reply! so here i am putting my neck on the chopping board again!

k k u can scold or skrew me if u want! Prb is, i never really payed attention to which was which! And i only bought my DD-3 and GE-7 after having reviews and guidances! other then dat, my other EFX's, when i got them, i had no guidance at all and i din knw abt SOFT then, so i was a TOTAL noob then .... Maybe i still am! i don consider myself a good gutarist .... low self esteem i guess

But anyways, back on track ....

Pls help me ....

Wats the Difference in Digital and Analog? :smt100

Sorry!

I knw the DD-3 is DIgital cos it says it!

But what does it hv to do with sound or whatever ? :smt021

:smt102

Thanx alot!
Cheers!

Guys seriously it took me some guts to ask it here! so i accept the mocking openly! as long i can get the answers ... if i don ask, i wont knw!

so i dont mind lor!

I guess digital is generally considered inferior because it is less responsive to conditions outside of itself due to it's innate features; digital pedals convert things into binary for processing before converting them back, or something along those lines.

I guess it's summed up in this: "An analog or analogue signal is any variable signal continuous in both time and amplitude. It differs from a digital signal in that small fluctuations in the signal are meaningful.".

Digital stuff isn't worse, but guitars, and most guitarists, place alot of emphasis on natural tone. If you use like, guitar synthesizers and shit like that I'm sure it wouldn't matter much to you would it.

Well i don use those sythersizers thingys ... all i do is hv 2 seperate channels, Clean and Dirty!

and some Efx like a Chorus and a DD3 and maybe im thinking of adding a Phaser! all these to add colour to the sounds be it clean or dirty! Datz all ...

im pretty tone particular too ... in fact very, and so far im getthing what i want, but how does Digi and Ana EFX'x effect ur tone? What are the characteristics that each emphasis on n stuff like dat? Does it change or suck tone?

the feel of analog pedal is way better than a digital pedal.

a digital pedal doesnt have as much dynamics as an analog pedal.
(and makes u a worse player after a while)

a digital pedal also is highly unlikely to feature true bypass.

AND it chews batteries like nobody's business.

but i guess u can close 2 eyes for the digital delay cos those analog tape delays cost a bomb!

the good thing is they are very dependable (as in tt pinch harmonic will always sound the same, the palm-mute chords sound more or less the same no matter where u place ur palm and a whole lot of things when u try them out urself)

i guess the only thing worth mentioning is those line 6 recording softwares.

i've heard they can recreate many high-end amp sounds and they sound fabulous!

yeah, tt's wad i know from my experience :)

ps:
if u really want to know wad i mean, take ur boss metal zone(i cant think of a popular analog pedal!) and connect in line with a uber metal tonecore pedal and go hear for urself

well the most important pedals that get digitalised are the drive pedals, and heres my 2 cents worth

Digital: good for insane amounts of distortion with pathetic amounts of dynamics

Analog: less drivey, but theres a hell lot more of dynamics

as a digital pedal user, i CAN hear and feel the difference, but i got no money to go analog all the way, so i'll juz stick to digital, anw techno rocks

Analog pedals have that slight fluctuation, that make them sound "warm", fuller, more natural, etc. Their lack of said fluctuation is why digital pedals are often seen as "cold", especially distortion pedals and the like; which are rather reliant on these fluctuations. This also makes analog pedals responsive, in both good and bad ways, to other pedals, to your picking, etc

Ultimately it's up to what you hear la.

basing your purchases on simply whether a product is analog or digital isn't a good way to build up your collection of efx :?

Hey thanc guys! very informative! now i understand and get a better, clearer picture of these 2! Thanx alot for the patience!

Really appreciate it alot!
Cheers! :supz: :prayer:

Well actually i never did base them on whether they were Ana or Digi! Like u said, it was what i hear, and what kinda sound/tone/signature sound i wanted to get or achieve! :D

it take guts to ask...

but it takes lesser guts to try to learn how to use www.google.com

some self research of various topics online together with discussion and proper testing of said pedals will only bring your knowledge and experience to a higher level.

I love digital.
I love analogue.
I love them all. They all have their purpose.

thanx bro! the topic came to mind suddenly! will keep wat u said in mind next time an idea comes in! thanx though! :smt023

yup, thats why i was being nice too.

nice people who ask nicely get treated nicely.

a pure simple fact of life.

a common sense that is so uncommon these days.

so now we have sort out the info part, lets go on to the other part

Digital- Frown upon by many coz it doesnt sound organic enough.

Analog- Like the old grandma story we might have heard many time from the ah peks, kors kors, uncle sitting at kopitiam or dwelling round forums who cant forget and still pretty much in love with their generation. Even after 40-50 years.

Digital- Cool

Analog- fun

Digital- old technology but slight younger than analog

Analog- technically not correct. Should be analogue

Digital- Used by some to describe multi efx

Analog- Used by some to describe single stompbox

Digital- 1,0,0,1

Analog- [] [] [] [] []

Digital- our thoughts

Analog- our action

Digital- techno

Analog- speech

Digital- internet forums

Analog- newspaper

Digital- dragonforce

Analog- dragonforce
