I like a bit of deathcore actually, but only the more brutal ones. When it comes to metalcore, though, most of them are just so melodic that they're a pain to listen to. (For me, at least). If I want melody, I'd turn to melodic death metal, which is for now my favourite genre of metal.

Anyone like me? Who finds that overly melodic stuff get irritating after a while? Or maybe I'm just wierd.

Wah dunno why ppl criticize deathcore and metalcore jia lat jia lat..... Everybody can hear wat they wan on their own perspective.... I can listen to Deathcore/Metalcore like The Accacia Strain, Emmure or As I Lay Dying to Trash/Grind/Black like Morbid Angel, Death, Cannibal Corpse or Satryicon.... Even now labels like Metalblade and Earache Records are signing the new genres not to make profit but widen the range genres which people are free to listen.....

Doom metal anyone?

Doom is one of the most underrated genres in Singapore.
It's like 5/100 who listens to doom...

Perhaps the reason why it's less popular is because most singaporeans who listens to metal (excluding deathcore and metalcore and whatever core) prefers the more fast paced songs. Death and Black is widely popular among metal listeners.

Candlemass, My Dying Bride, Novembers Doom, Swallow The Sun deserve the kinda recognition that core bands recieved.

The reason why metal blade sign such bands is not because they want to 'advertise' the genre. That is never the puporse of a record label.
Record labels sign bands to make money. Because core genres is on the rise (which is a very very bad thing), it is their quickest way to earning big bucks. Prey on newbies who think that metal is equals to metalcore.

A similar case, mostly everyone knew this, that underoath used to be a death metal band. Now? A ridiculous screaming band... They change their music that will earn them money. Music isn't much about music the way it used to be. Musicians are changing their style of for the sake of fame and money, and forgetting about their fans, just hoping their loyal fans will still listen to them...

I'll be waiting for Deicide to become an emo band. That's very unlikely. If that happens, then Glen Benton must be sick in the head.

and there is no right or wrong way to classify a form of music since classification by itself is a human construct.

everything with a standard band, is rock to me.
and metal is just heavy rock.
people find a need to classify different types of music(which are basically the same)
so that they can belong to that particular classification, but its pointless and downright stupid.

See thats where people get wrong. Its not about being cool or brutal or scene or whatever. Its the fact that we want our love, our passions, to remain pure and untainted. That is why we dont want the association factor. And we mainly classify most of our metal as heavy metal. Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Slayer, Metallica, they're all heavy metal. thats it.

Then came in the myspace generation, and all these bands calling themselves hardcore or what not. then came the worst part when some started to say they're Death metal/Deathcore.

Back to the discussion, its NOT about being cool. Never was. And like I said, we only have a problem with the association. Simple example of how RayBan has aviator shades, they started it. Then now you have so many copy brands, trying to have aviator shades. But it'll never be a rayban (sorry i'm just quite addicted to my rayban)

So yeah. And I think its because of this br00tal attitude, thats helping the metal culture turn back to its roots and stay true. Its quite safe to say, you can see more old school thrash and old school death and old school heavy metal as a whole now, making a resurgence. So yeah. Having said that, I have many 'hardcore', 'deathcore' friends, and I dont really care what they listen to, and I've not influenced them directly in any way. And neither have they to me.
