Deal gone bad: Sellers Beware

Alright, Wan contacted me and explained stuff. Basically he said that he did not know the pedal was not a BYOC, and he didn't return my calls or messages because he was having reservist training over the weekend and did not have his phone with him. His phone was with his wife who did not update him about the situation, and he only found out about it when he read this thread. Thus, he's offered to buy the pedaltrain frame from me instead, which I've agreed to.

He's apologised for the trouble and I've apologised to him for the thread, and we've come to an amicable resolution. Yes, without arguments and fisticuffs, in case the action fans are wondering ;)

In any case, it takes a real man to explain things when the situation is this oppressive. I applaud Wan for calling me up to explain and honouring the deal.

I also have to apologise for causing this commotion here, however, given the circumstances, I feel I did not do any wrong by posting what I felt was a genuine case of a deal gone bad. I have made opporunities for explanations on both sides and thankfully we were able to come to a amicable resolution. As such, I will be retracting my previous comments made on this thread to respect what Wan did.

wow, this is the first time I've seen such a thing happen. That's a bloody disgustingly dishonest act if he was out to deceive.

before walking away with the traded item, it's always good to have a return-if-unsatisfactory period to avoid situations like this.

i've acquired an item from a fellow SOFTie here who gave me a 3-day return consideration. the item was in tip-top condition but the chap SMSed me on the final day just to ask if everything is alright; now that's examplary 8-)

I agree, I've always ended deals by telling the seller to contact me if they have any queries or if there's anything wrong with the item I sold/traded them. I've also honoured returns when the item I sold malfunctioned after sale or wasn't to the guy's liking. I feel that's just good practice and responsibility on the seller's part.

Hope more of these ppl who are honest and responsible come and rub all these bad memories away siah!

haha, always bring a mini amp or ms-4 to test out the product
anyway, i feel for u bro, soft like suddenly increasing with all these stupid scammers

well, your case is far worse than the one i had just now

my case is simple... buyer AWOL. that after confirming the time and place. made me wait

i dont post number but ultimately i will exchange number thru pm... this is in case the guy genuinely has sth on last min and he can let me know, or vice versa.

alternatively, it is for me to check if his handphone is on

oh, which means to say i know who he is on soft

i've had people fly aeroplane on me before the deal time and place was confirmed (some of whom are prominent softies whose identities i will not disclose), and that is ok because of my no reserve first come first serve policy.

Some schools of thought here.

If item sold malfunctions and if the buyer informs the seller immediately (within 1-2 days), I would see the point of honoring returns. In fact I myself would encourage it.

If it happens like after a week or two, I would be pretty reluctant, especially if it's sold at a really good price to begin with.

If it's not to the guy's liking, when technically it is no fault of the gear, then sorry to say that I will not honor a return. It is really up to the buyer to find out more about whether or not the product is suitable or of his liking. Also, I offer plenty of opportunities to try, although at most times my buyer simply meets me at a place that is not possible for testing.

So far, though, my Selling/Trading record is clean. I've had pretty happy customers.

In your case, though, if this Wan fella is aware of the rehousing done, it is outright cheating. If not, he is just an arse. Either way, thanks for the heads up.

i think the only way to prevent this kind of thing is to lay down the law when you start a sales thread

Heh.. Same thing Sub.. I usually give my buyers a 2-3 days return policy..
Kinda gives them the assurance that I'm sincere..:mrgreen:

That's good to hear. Just like we want to be warned abt the bad guys, we should also highlight the good ones. I would support some arrangement/mechanism to publicly recognise such sellers/buyers so that we can know who the good/bad/unknown folks are.

Sigh, yeah.. This happens, usually when i sell stuff, i'd sms the person like a day or two (or during the night of the day we dealt for the item) and ask if the pedal's working fine. in the event that it is not, i believe that it is only morally correct to give a full refund to that person.
