Deal gone bad: Sellers Beware

Yeah, i also usually give 3 days return policy, n try to check with them if its working fine or not. Cuz sometimes shit happens.

Just to share and to get it off my chest. I had bad experiences with a very prominent and regular seller here. I was given false facts, got misled, and irresponsibly taken for a ride. Not once, but twice. First incident - I was given false info and later the item also turned out to be faulty...but I gave him benefit of doubt because he claimed he "didn't know". Second incident - I was given false info and misled into paying much more than I should for something that was not even there. And it ain't cheap! So much for trust (sigh!). In both incidents, not a single word of apology nor a simple token of compensation from him. He just claimed he "didn't know" and denied any responsibility. And he even got the nerve to tell me off for "making it a big issue". Interestingly, I later found out from some people I'm not the only person who got a raw/bad deal from him.

In view of this, I find only two possible explanations.
1) Wan knew the pedal was not a BYOC pedal and was out to deceive
2) Wan did not know the pedal was not a BYOC pedal but did not reply to my calls and messages because he did not want to honour a return

Sorry to hear that, but whatever the case (knowingly or unknowingly to the Seller) - - - This deal warrants a return (under law) because this deal is Totally Void.

guitarsan, because we don't have a way here to know the good from the bad, the bad ones (like the seller in your case) can keep conning more and more people.

I don't know, but perhaps we should have some sort of blacklist. I know this is not going to be easy to implement (I can imediately think of some issues), but maybe we can explore (or at least discuss within our community) the possibility how this might work?

main thing we wanna avoid is a "you blacklist me, i blacklist you" kind of thing. then blacklist becomes blackmail instead

secondly, blacklisted softies can just create a new account. this will result in softies not wanting to do any kind of deal with noobs

Well maybe you can have a thread for marked/blacklisted members reported for botched deals.

Notify the Softie in question via pm, if he wants he can defend himself in the thread for all to judge, if not then others can be wary of him in the future

Ultimately, other forummers' decision to deal with him is still their own

agreed. at this rate we're gonna have a problem. a list MAY be slightly beneficial, but only if everyone here is mature enough to deal with the situation properly. blackmail is bound to rise as some people would definately deal with the situation wrongly.

for me, personally if the product i sold has a problem the buyer can always come back to me. if it has any minor glitches i don't make them a secret either. i don't usually give people a refund cause i've made clear of all the possible problems (and so far no one asked me for one anyway) but would gladly help in any way possible. (cause it WAS mine b4 i sold it)

Hmm, seems like a 'ebayish' feedback system need to be in place here. and we could take a leaf out of the sgspree's lj community, with every seller/buyer having their own page for feed back and a basic rating like an overall +ve/neutral/-ve on each of their buy/sell threads

hmm... that sounds very tempting. but people will bound to troll. i knew of another famous local forum (not saying which one) that is quite hard to get into cause of the members. some of the members gained such a reputation that if they don't like someone, they made it obvious and got away with it. Worse, others would join them.

I left that forum solely because of that reason. So if we're going to have a feedback system, it better be well implemented lest we have more trolls running about

I second the feedback system. Dishonest sellers should be shamed publicly to protect others. By implementing a feedback system with positive/negative reviews, buyer can make his own judgment based on the reviews.

What goes round comes around. This is a small committee, and any deeds (good or bad)...people will eventually come to know. Incidentally, in response to my earlier post (#22), someone has msg me and asked me if I'm referring to that particular person. Well, he got it spot on! Apparently, he was also unhappy with his dealing. Small world indeed.

yes, and those who write good or bad about others MUST be held accountable for their remarks, like they must be softies as well. then leave it for the buyer to make his own decisions

oh ya. that does raise a few good questions

but for anyone to do that they must have been REALLY desperate. even the conmen who con old aunties don't go to THAT much extent la...

mero, just wondering.

if the deal came out good, wld u thank wan publickly here in the forum?

only after u've sought james' permission?

=Krist

Whats the need for that? If thats the case then everytime a deal done, everyone has to thank one another.
