Confirmed Cancelled Caliban Show in Singapore

i think prodip is right. the tix were a bit too expensive. and when the flyers came out ard mid june, there was only like 1 or 2 weeks for the 55 tix before it became 65. i think that shows that the organisers were new in doing gigs. should publicize much earlier and made the tix $35,$45 n 55 at door just like woj.

the main thing when organising gigs i think is about doing it for the scene first and not the money. maybe shld just set the tix so that its just nice to cover the rentals, etc. whats important is that u get in the crowds in the first gig, and more and more crowds in future then maybe u can up the price a bit for a lil bit of profit. bands playin in gigs shouldn't be the same in every/most gigs (thats what i notice in some gigs) just because the organiser is their "members". organisers should put different bands new/old/popular/not too popular so that there's exposure and more balance. one way the organisers can find bands is by searching thru the music section in Myspace under sg. even crowds get bored when they hear that the same bands are performing again and again. i hope my opinion will change the mindset of gig organisers. peace!

I understand the position that the organisers are in. You have to look at the risks that the organisers are up against. Low audience numbers... do you carry on the show and bear the burden of a couple of thousands in debt or cut all your losses and cancel the show?

Think of it this way... go all out and have good sound systems that cost up to 6 - 10K in rental, divide by 200 pax (an sample figure from Dismember show) = that's still $30 - $50 a pop.

and you still have not factored in the band's performance fees (This is afterall their "job" so they should get paid at least), airfare for 4 - 6 band members ($1k minimum per pax), venue rental (at least 1-2K for small spaces), hotels (even budget hotels costs at least $80 a night x 6 pax thats already $480...), local transport and transfers, food, poster/flyer printing etc etc + if you have local supporting acts... they should get paid a token fee.

Shows overseas in well established touring circuits like Japan, Europe & the States can charge lower ticket prices because most times, the band gets to play more shows across the country (touring by van rather than flying across the different cities thereby lessening the travel expense), there is a greater audience mass, a better backline rental support (wider variety of gear means cheaper rental charges, less time spent looking for that Fender Twin Reverb '65 Reissue Blackface NOT Silverface), and venues like bars and clubs take a cut from door sales or bar sales as a form of "rental".

do the math....

So give the organisers a break... they're doing their best and let's all applaud them for their efforts rather than complaining and blaming about high costs of tickets, sound is shit, venue is shit, no aircon, no drinks, blah blah blah...

Most times organisers and promoters are just out to break even.. and most are just happy to have a good gig and know that the fans had their money's worth. as much as we want to have cheaper tickets in the hope that we will attract more people... is that a thousand dollar risk you will take?

naaaah most of those who complain online probably wont even go for shows when they come around..........

too used to freebies from downloading, myspace and youtube thats why..........

nah... you can't blame these 'Trendy Kids' what ever that means... I have a friend who has been saving up for the concert and when he has the money,he had to pay his bills.Save again and he has to buy some books.cause most of the are in schools. But i really wonder what have the organizers sacrifice...must be a lot man.

Most metalcore listeners are just emos...
They believe that Metalcore is the heaviest metal genre in the world... BROOOTAL!
The real metal band won the battle against the core band.
Dismember vs Caliban

Caliban is really popular here... Followers of As I Lay Dying will definitely follow another typical metalcore band that is a rip off of AILD.

At least bring in some quality metalcore bands can? All That Remains is the only metalcore band worth listening.

WTF!!! Juz bought tixs last week and now how come show cancelled due to poor ticket sales? When it was first announced alot of people posted "can't wait to go & all that jazz". Dun tell me its all posuer talk again?

Pity the organizers for all their efforts & risks taken. Hope they didn't loose much. Also hope this won't affect future bands when they considering to come to Singapore or else must go to KL watch them. So troublesome & tiring sitting in a bloody bus for 6/7 hours.

i'd totally beg my mum for money if All That Remains is playing.

i hear people say these things far too much.
but when the artiste really come down.. some people just went missing.
sorry Jugman, im not saying you're one of them or anything.
Just saying it as an example to highlight my point.

peace.

imo, the one you called trendy kids spend too much of their $10 on the cheap black t shirts displaying caliban, as i lay dying logos etc. Haha. And they call them supporting the bands. In reality, none of the $10 even reach the band. For a start, go buy for the band's official merch store. And throw that evil thing called mp3. you're no better than a pickpocket who preys on the old folks.

now got to make time to go back to where i buy the ticket.

thats why i'll say it again.........ppl today is too used to freebies and cheepies for music but will spend money on their stoopid haircuts n' clothes/sneakers.....fags!!!!

i juz went over to caliban's official page and in the news section, it states that - The main-promoters haven't managed to plan the show properly and it is cancelled due to promoter problems!

so wat exactly is the problem? was it really the ultra bad response or was it the promoter havent manage to plan the show properly as wat has been stated in caliban website...or was it both?!

The shirts maybe fake/cheap , but it gets the attention of people? I think yes. People says its the thought that counts. :)

We all once buy cheap / fake goods. Cause no point buying if the fake looks real? Cause the brand is rich? HAHA!

In Singapore's context what is the meaning of "poor promotion"? Does the organizer need to place big expensive ads in the mainstream media like Singfest? Or just a few posters at the usual Roxy, La Vanita, jamming studios etc. is enough?

Dismember sold pretty well via the usual "poster" only method and Death Cab (from what I read in this forum) is almost sold out. All done with very low-key promotional ways.

So whats the problem? Band not big enough?

For me have to go down and get my refund this weekend *sigh* ...has anyone successfully got theirs back yet?
