Completely custom guitars

I was wondering, does anyone in Singapore make new guitars from scratch? Like a fully equipped custom shop, with slabs of wood and stuffs?

doubt there are any luthiers doing that at the moment. u could try malcolm tho id think he would recommend u his nos numa and so would i. but if ure looking for odd shaped guitars or making something come alive outta a drawing u still could try him. www.mtlutherie.com to get his contact.

it's my dream to be the best fren of someone who owns such a shop! Haha

i wanna make myself a mockingbird thru neck custom, bindings inlaid with abalone patterns, see thru red... 24 fret ebony fretboard with jumbo frets... and a black floyd rose trem with matching grover tuners... pickups i'm thinking fernandes VH-1 in neck and EMG 81 in bridge, with possibly a single coil fender pickup in the middle - 3 pickups. THen a coil tap on the VH-1, not so much the EMG (can EMGs be coil tapped?) or maybe some other boutique pickup?

4 pots! 2 volume 2 tone. top hat knobs, ermm and with the maker's signature at the headstock.

Nosnuma is not made from scratch. It's using mainly USACG parts...

yeps i know that nos numas are not made from scratch. i was trying to refer him to malcolm cos i thought he might be able to help the lad.

the guitar you want already exist. except for the abalone inlays. its the BC Rich slash custom. or their old NJ series which is also neck thru. i had one, then i sold it off to channie.

actually at this era.. nobody will really spend that loads of effort for business..

high cost, long hours, tremendous effort. and they get back.. low returns, loads of complains even if some very small error occurs..

If you see usacg or warmoth or such, these are big companies that owns big time cnc machines and direct contact to raw wood source. Nobody will actually cut a body for sale w/o using the cnc or some sorta machine to aid. Only hobby builders, eg me, will be crazy enuff to use a jigsaw to cut out the shape of the body and start shaping it. The all traditional method. Why do so when there are other coy ready made for purchase? the fun involved in building!

since RazrAsh already pointed out the guitar you dream of, getting the inlay done isn't a big problem. Once that's done, you've got your dream come true. How sweet huh :D

yeah i suppose slash MG custom WAS my inspiration for that - but it currently retails at like abt 1000 USD? and it made in korea, according to all reviews it is made badly! Like cut like a bronze series or something... to be more refined i'd want the body cut like hide's MGs, more contoured instead of the blockish feel of BCR mockingbirds.

i knoe if i go US can get BCR customs from dealers.. but we are but ASIANS! haha

If you really want a custom - you got to pay for it.

If you really want a custom - you'll find ways to get it.

So save up and go for a BC Rich custom and then figure out how you can get it over here. V-Post, asking some store dealer to help package everything together (you'll have to pay him of course) and so on - there are ways to get round.

I understand your search for quality - which is cool - that the production models usually fail to deliver... so yeah, it seems that you are really bound to the custom route.

Just make sure you are ready and willing to part with the time, effort and money.

agreed. if ure thinking that 1000usd is expensive u might think twice abt going completely custom cos guitars made totally from scratch usually set u back by ALOT.

if you want a custom, you gota really KNOW what you WANT. like, really know it. really really.

want custom get ready to pay $$$$$$$$$ and NOT get what you want.

This reminds me of a foolish pedal builder getting involved with a furniture maker.....

if you have the tools, the time and if you are not too clumsy you can build it yourself.
it's more gratifying than to ask someone to do it for you. ;)

sure you can find the shematics of the mockingbird online... (you find those for mesa boogie, gibson, fender etcetc...)

Edder,

I saw the furniture maker's ad in 'Fingerstyle' guitar magazine! Apparently he's only making high end guitars now. Regardless of his past, I've seen some of his recent work and I'm quite impressed. However, the integrity of a person is much more important than what he's capable of.
