clean tube amp

Hi all. I'm looking for a tube amp with lots of clean headroom before breaking up. My Laney sounds great, but it breaks into saturated overdrive way too early. when jamming at louder volumes, it will start to break up.

so i'm looking for a nice clean tone, that can rival my Laney LC15R in terms of volume, so i can A/B the two amps. Currently, I'm looking at the Valve Junior head/cab. Will it give me a nice loud clean tone? Although I'm sure there are mods which increases its headroom.

Also, can you give suggestions? I'm looking at a Vox AC15 and the Valve Junior, although there's a large price disparity. Something along that range.

Based on the formulae, the VJR is 72% as loud as your laney.
But its a clean amp, so it might be the ticket for you.

if you want something really really clean get high wattage amps as they tend to have more headroom. amidoinitrite
 
What you're looking for is headroom. Also what style of music do you play?

I don't think the two amps you mentioned will do what you want... I am not sure, no personal experience with either.

Do consider
- More efficient speaker
- 6l6 based amp.
- AC30

this is the reason why bass amps are of higher ratings- because bassists need cleans at higher volumes without breaking up.

15W? Go check out the Fender Princeton Reverb Reissue. How much cleaner do you want? This thing will clean out your Laney!:cool:

Or even better, go see the Divided by 13 amps.;)

that's actually what i was thinking of. but i haven't seen it in anywhere in singapore yet... you think swee lee might stock this amp? it would probably be pretty damn expensive though. especially after swee lee just marked up all their prices...

thanks for all the suggestions! i'll go research into those 6L6 equipped amps, as well as those ceriatones. they sure look nice.

edit: i play all sorts of rock. i play mostly: incubus, red hot chili peppers, radiohead, silverchair, etc. so i need a good clean tone, as well as the high gain.

Hey you might wanna check out Blackwood's. They've got a Silverface Twin Reverb the last time i went there. Suppose to be the cleanest of the fender amps. Saw it goin for $1500.
 
I agree with Nickybutt. The silver twin reverb is the best amp I've ever played so far. Took a US Strat and plugged it in. Clean mode. Wow. I played it for like half an hour. No effects. Just pure clean tone :) Sweet.

No. they don't. I had to order it... Placed deposit in Aug. Delivery in Jan.. *haiz*
