hi,

bros, need some help here, im considering on buying an extra snare, my choice was between the 12 x 5 portnoy snare and that extra thick maple warlord snare (yea, im much of a Tama guy)
now i extremely love the sound of both, and as far as my dream goes i would love to have both, but as always the finance side of things is not able to hold my back (i.e. no money.. )

a little advice and help would be much appreciated

thanks,
Starclassic

i have the portnoy's melody master.. sometimes i wonder why i got it... but seriously lah.. ask yourself what you gonna use it for and try the snare before buying it...

portnoy's snare sound pretty awesome lah... but it really doesnt suit the setting i play in

what kind of setting (or type of music) do you play? i play both metal and jazz and i love those music equally. that portnoy snare has that right pop and crack for me, and the warlord (listening from the sound samples) has the right warmth) but im wondering which one is more versatile

btw, how do you like that portnoy snare (just generally even though it doesnt fit ur setup) ?
is yours the maple or the hammered steel?

Thanks for the feedback,

Starclassic

mine is hammered steel.. the maple one is only available in 14inch i think..

I play for church service. for the snare, i will definitely not describe its sound as warm. It has a pretty huge overtone. Because of its size, i would say this snare aint as versitile as i wanted it to be, however it makes bringing it along much easier because of its size.

Personally I'd go for 2 very sonically different snares. Get something that works with your jazz stuff and something else for your metal.

You live in the same world as me...i have a dennis chambers and a 13 x 6.5 metalworks...rox my sox off when i play either.

hi
i tried on the warlord maple both the 13' and 14', the 13 ' has a slightly sharper tone, if you want to have a wider tuningrange, go for the Bubinga.
I personally own a 13' bubinga.
I play chinese rock,

Just my 2 cents worth.
