Chinese Democracy

I'm loving it! It sounds so epic. Axl Rose is awesome. It's not going to please old school glam rockers who expect people to stay the same, but if you listen with a rational, intelligent ear you can hear that this is where Axl was headed even with Use Your Illusion I & II.

Head down to http://www.myspace.com/gunsnroses, where you can listen to THE WHOLE ALBUM streamed. Listen especially to Streets of Dreams, Better and This I Love and you'll see why Axl still kicks ass.

ROLLING STONES gave CHINESE DEMOCRACY a 4 out of 5 stars!

really?

haha i'm so sidetracked of guns n roses i think this is the first good comment i've heard abt the new gnr in years.

Agreed!

Old-GNR or new-GNR, it doesn't matter. The most important thing is that Axl Rose did what he wants to do.

'Better' is ringing in my head!

Just got it from HMV today. First impressions aren't so good, the first few songs are great. I don't really mind the "new" GnR with their industrial trippy style, but once we get past If The World, it just goes downhill all the way, the songs start sounding the same and some are just downright boring. Still props to Axl for actually making a decent album, if it wasn't for the 12 year wait and insane amount of hype built around it, this would have been a GOOD GnR album. It's just too bad that it's almost impossible (I say almost because Visa appears to be enjoying it :) ) to not be disappointed by it, considering how anticipated this album has been.

Everyone says how Velvet Revolver is the REAL DEAL, the new GnR and all that. But to be honest I didn't find them that impressive either, and Axl, no matter how much you might hate him, is a key component of Guns and Roses. So get back together and make Appetite Version 2.0 dammit!

i don't think Appetite can ever happen again whatever the lineup, such things are once-off.

And really? I liked the later songs too!

The secret to enjoying it is not to have anticipated it, which I didn't >_>

They still have a guy who has a KFC bucket on his head... ;)

Appetite for destruction is a nice album i've ever heard ^^

Heh that KFC bucket fellow left a long time ago. Now they have a guy who plays a guitar with yellow and black stripes.

I like the album too. I already knew this album would be different from Appetite, so I wasn't disappointed when I first listened to it. It's good to hear Axl trying new stuffs. It's still rock n roll nonetheless.

Well I can't un-anticipate it now, can I? :( I didn't mind the later songs, I mean I didn't hate them or anything, they just started sounding too similar and bored me.

Also, billthegeek, do you mean Bumblefoot?

And I definitely did not buy this album expecting an Appetite-esque album. I had already heard Better and Shackler's Revenge prior to the release and so I knew what was in store, but I gotta agree with a review on the Internet somewhere. The album took so long to be released that songs were penned in different decades sometimes, and they somewhat represent the musical trend at that time, like how Shackler's Revenge has that NIN vibe to it. Still, I can't help but be disappointed at the really lacklustre lyrics (more than 10 years to write them, yet they're simplistic and not particularly well-thought out) and lack of variety in the second half of the album. I'd give it a 3.5/5 IF it was a new album from a band that put one out once every 2 or 3 years, but for the most anticipated album of the century perhaps? Nah. Enjoyable, but not incredible, and definitely not the epic return of GnR as we all hoped it would be. I'll be holding out for Chinese Democracy 2, expected out in December 2030. :)

lol...
What is guns n roses without axl rose and slash...?
Even if there's axl rose in the band, without slash, it just sound so awkard...
It seemed like Axl rose is the only one who got the real Guns N' Roses element inside. You get what I mean... On the other hand, slash also sound so wrong in velvet revolver even though their record was not a bad one..

Can you believe it? The album is banned in the mainland of China.

"The album is banned in the People's Republic of China, reportedly due to supposed criticism in its title track about the Government of the People's Republic of China and a reference to the Falun Gong. The Communist government said through a state controlled newspaper that it "turns its spear point on China." - Wikipedia

Banned in China haha so typical. Anyways the solos on " Better " has some crazy sweeps, really different from what slash would do man...

yup, its bumblefoot now, but buckethead's solos are still put inside the final mix (at least thats wad i read off wikipedia).

somehow the solos sound very jarring (ie not smooth) compared to slash's sound. oh well, will always prefer slash era gnr though chinese democracy is a pretty decent album.

I'm about half-way through the album now (listening to it on Myspace). I quite like it. The songs I've heard so far feel very good. Even the aggressive ones have this cheerfulness to them. That said it's not a G 'n' R album to me, not by a long shot; I'd describe it more as a "happy Axl Rose solo project". G 'n' R will always create that mental image of sleazy, dirty blues rock with Axl sneering and snarling. Bumblefoot - or whoever played guitars on the record - sounds stellar, but the solos are so uplifting, it's just not the same.

But it's sounding really good. I'll go buy this.

No point banning CDs in China. they can still get it from roadside pirated cd vendors.

Yea, when I first heard the opening guitar of shackler's revenge, Buckethead immediately came to my mind. :D

Its just so kickass...just got mine just now.

Buckethead's solos are still in it...lovelovelovelovelovelovelove awesome!!!!!!
