Chinese Democracy

Not worth the whole 14 year wait. Good stuff, but it should have been the album that kills babies. Alas, this was not.

But Axl should be proud, he beat Tool's "waiting game" ideology. 14 years. That's alot of time wasted for an album that sounds like a 4-5 years kinda work. Good music, but not earth shattering. But yeah, I do know that there's alot of problems in getting the album out....but the main problem was Axl himself.

8.5/10 rating from me :)

14 years doesn't mean he spent 14 years doing the album. there would no doubt have been times where he felt like giving up.

The joke about how did "Guns' N Roses" name came about:

after Axel Rose forced the members to sign an agreement giving the rights to the band to him, the rest of the members became more or less his "hired guns" and Axel became the only Rose in the band.

Disgrunted, the "hired guns" decided to leave the band and the roses behind and upgrade themselves to Velvet Revolver. Rose however continues to hire new guns....

Funny idea!

For those who are actually curious, Guns N' Roses was put together of a mix of members from the LA Guns (Founded by Tracii Guns) and Hollywood Rose (Founded by Axl and Izzy- Slash and Adler actually played in Hollywood Rose before, and left).

They named it Guns N' Roses. Tracii (such an unfortunate man!) left before they even played a single gig- along with the drummer. Slash joined, and brought Adler with him. And there began the Guns N' Roses that we're mostly familiar with. The bunch went all the way from LA to Seattle by themselves with just their gear to play a show for almost nobody, and the experience cemented them as a group.

I will always remember Izzy Stradlin as the guy who took a piss in an aeroplane aisle because he was drunk and all the toilets were occupied at the moment lol.

[=visa

haha thanks for that bit of background history visa my man....just a side joke about the band since its Guns N' Roses and about Axel being the only "rose" and the rest were just hired guns....get my drift...

This album is so about Axl...he should get sessionist musician to play for this album, the guitar works is more like an instrumental album, better get ACDC latest - Black Ice the album is toppings the chart in Europe and US cause they are real pure Rock and Roll stuff from this album. This is also a strategy of Axl to get China Fans to listen to his album imagine 2 billion people listening to his album or maybe half billion........he will be famous than Obama.

Shit lah the more I listen to the first track 'Chinese Democracy' the more I love it. I think each song will grow on you after a few listens.

The first song especially when the guitars first come in, damn shiok.

Axl can offend them cos he's sleek as shit. I don't think you have the right to offend axl for 'crossing the line' when you're just a well, nobody.

the album is great honestly, and true to the words by slash( read in some past articles in yrs 2000+) he mentioned before that Axl after UYIllusion, was very much into electronical rock, industrial rock, he was so much awe of trent renzor at that time, and even suggest that next album will be in that direction.

side track abit IMO, Bands need to move on, you cant just stay on the same spot chunking out the same formula again and again. look at all the great band, that experiment, be it flop or success, U2, REM, Green Day, beatles.

we "buy" his attitude together with his rock and roll images, music, spoken words.

and if he hits you metalhead 1993, definitely you also have the RIGHT to retaliate for self defences or will you let him hit cos you are a nobody?

Wierd...where did you get the idea bro?....Cos i read the autobiography of Slash and he and Steve was in there while they recorded rocket queen and Axl Rose recorded those infamous "moans" and the rest of the album ... he was kicked out before use your illusion. He dint support that decision btw since Steve was a really good friend of his.

It was in a lot of GW articles after Illusion came out. I vaguely remember this point put across as one of the key points why Adler was fired. Like he was too stoned or too drunk to record properly, so the album ended up being done by a sessionist drummer, and he played those songs live only. Then again, I can't seem to find anything on the net regarding this. Maybe I misread or it was just a PR story to get him fired during the recordings of the UYI albums.

And those "moans" were apparently Adler's girlfriend... with Axl.

A brief history about GN'R

Slash and Adler met their future Guns N' Roses bandmates when they placed an ad in a newspaper searching for a bassist for their band. Duff McKagan responded to the ad, and later worked with Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin in Hollywood Rose, who Slash had originally auditioned for, before merging with LA Guns (Rob Gardner, Tracii Guns and Ole Beich) to create Guns N' Roses.

The three joined Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin to create the most famous and "original" line-up of Guns N' Roses. Adler drummed on the first three GN'R albums: their 1986 EP Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide, the multi-platinum Appetite for Destruction and G N' R Lies. Adler's work also appeared on one song on Use Your Illusion II, the opening track "Civil War", although his drum track is said to be heavily edited.

If im not wrong Adler's drumming was in AFD....he has this very distinct sonic signature to his drumming that even Sorum cant duplicate when he covers the older AFD stuff live.

Some people may not be able to tell the difference but i do.

After listening this album for around a hundred times, i definitely recommend this album!
The album is well produced and recording is excellent. I love the bluesy soulful guitar solos injected with occasional shredding. I don’t miss Slash at all. I love the spanish guitar, heavy fuzzy metal guitars, and the stratty clean guitars. But I don't seem to dig the pianos too much like those in their previous albums. I love the trippy electonic drumming though.

And of course Axl still can sing his heart out. Song arrangement was well done but in some songs the words are very commercial pop, which I don’t like.

Overall, the album is a good listen and I predict that this will be the No.1 selling album for 2008.
