chinese and malay instrument racism?

<snip>....
Truth is: Malays don't play Ibanez or Gibsons. They play cheap acoustics because they can't afford electricity, much less an electric guitar.

No, the real truth is that at void decks, you can't (legally) get electricity.

I think in this case, ALL asians shouldn't play these brands cos only angmohs play them... In any way, i think you should find new friends to hang out with...

Huh? My nick is White Strat... Does this mean I'm supposed to be white? Nah... That's all bullshit man...

That's like saying Eric Clapton and SRV shouldn't be playing the blues because they're not black.

only blue people can play the blues. nuff said.

is it bcoz malays are shredders?
shredders need shred guitar = ibanez?

chinese are glam rockers (as in glam rock, emo, i even saw "mat rock" here, what's mat rock?????)
glam rockers need glam guitar = gibson les paul?

hahaha! just kidding.... hope nobody flames me!

maybe your friends are just goofing you off.

but seriously, we tend to get the exact gears our guitar heroes have regardless of race or color.

Hehe sry snapped just now ...

But seriously, all the racist remarks in singapore has got to stop...I mean this is a multi-racial country aint it? Why the need for such racist remarks...We dont want the racial riots that happened back then to occur again wud we...destruction,chaos...

and for singaporeans to say such things is ridiculous...We should live in peace...

Sugarbird, you are seriously out of line. Pls read THOA's post again.
Don't blaze away just because you don't get the drift of what's being said.
Like Daryl said, THOA is most likely Malay!
Now, be big enough to apologise - don't shoot and scoot.

Why do people fly off the handle so easily?

Well done, bro.
But why so angsty about the situation here?
I am sure you have not lived in a country where racism is institutionalised.
There's always bigots in every country, but all things considered, the situation in Singapore is not bad. IMO, you will see racism anywhere if you go looking for it, meaning a lot of time, it's your own perception that will trip you up. Take it easy, dude.

THat is the problem when people don't go deep enough into certains thing....(for this case,guitars)...and make superficial comments.....

Probably your friend don't really play, or perhaps not enough exposure... I suppose...

after observing the people who buy guitars from guitar connection, I can safely conclude that most Malays stay loyal to one brand. that is, Fender.

they are very steady when it comes to buying a Fender. slowly pay up every month until they can finally have it. they would gladly trade in their Ibanez for a Fender stratocaster any time.

guess what, their common guitar idol is Malmsteen. dont need Ibanez to shred k, Fender also can.

Ibanez is cheap and good! students arnt very rich. therefore Ibanez is like the best thing that you can get within a certain budget. I have a few Ibanez guitars at home which are very very nice to play with.

Sugarbird, thanks for clarifying.

We all know it's not easy, and we know that words can hurt coz we are human (even if we intellectualize away occasions of racist remarks as so much fluff not worthy of our anger). But I do think that if you react to every such act and every remark with your guns blazing, the situation gets worse (and probably more so for the target of those remarks i.e you) and not better. What more, in an online forum where people should theoretically have the chance of thinking through things a bit more calmly (compared to face-to-face situations, which is more explosive).

If you can use these unfortunate occasions to show your class/school mates how inane those remarks really are, and therefore how silly they make them look, you will go some way towards slowly improving the situation. The trick is to do this calmly, and it helps to have it in your mind that the first to lose his temper in this exchange is the loser. Another thing, sometimes the basis of "racist" words is just plain unthinking action - people simply don't engage their brains before they speak, and not out-and-out fascist-type race hatred.

Now, I suggest this to you because it has worked for me, but perhaps I have the advantage of some years over you. Then again, you have nothing to lose, right?
