buying keyboard. recommend?

my band and I were walking around sourcing for keyboard. our budget was about 2.5k-3k.
but after when we saw M50 and asked for a demonstration, we decided to get the KORG M50 either 73keys or 61keys. And yes, I would recommend M50 to people with budget as it cost around 1.1k (discounted during xmas, but not sure if price will return to 1.6k as per normal), whether they are amatuars, arrangers, pro keyboardist, etc. It's powerful and affordable and MOST importantly, the sound library IS AWESOME!! =D
Awesome coz it sounded real - the drums, bass guitar, strings, piano, etc~
When I used the piano, the touch was like 70-80% close to an acoustic piano. (i'm not really a pianist, but played on a yamaha grand piano for two years, so you can trust me for that). I really really like the touch =) OF course, u can't compare to an acoustic piano LAH
cannot compare apple with orange! I think 88 keys are weighted keys, the rest of the two models are normal plastic keys :/
unfortunately, and ARGH unfortunately, we've need to wait till FEB for next shipment. kaoz, we should have just grabbed it that day!
*Additional info: I think M50 is like the LE (light edition) version of the M3, which is a pro equipment. Not too sure, but really seems so

ngKy7, don't get Yamaha keyboard. pls, DON"T.
We're using a 1.6k Prs (forgot which series, supposedly good one)
and it sounded like crap (no offense to yamaha staffs, but just being objective) compare to Korg m50. I played on the keyboard for 3 months, tot it was okay UNTIL I played on the m50.
And the thing is, that YAMAHA is so EXPENSIVE after comparison for the sound it produces
hmmm.. maybe because that m50 is too cheap for the kind of sound, functions, touch quality it gives? well, whatever it is, know that for yamaha, you don't just pay for the quality, u pay for the brand. :/

interesting you tried the yamaha motif?
tried one at fourtones and like the samples.
haven try the korg M50 though.
also planning to get a keyboard next yr hopefully, so that i can create some tunes,
but damn ex sia.
and ts, would u prefer those plastic keys or the weighed down ones?
i prefer the weighed down ones cause they feel more similar to the piano ones,
but i think the plastic ones require less energy to "activate" so u can do the runs faster?

Before getting a keyboard (esp for beginners), please read through all the stickies in this forum.
You HAVE to ask yourself some important questions:
1. What genre are you going to play (pop, contemporary, rock, acoustic/classical, techno, etc)?
2. What are you going to use it for (home use, gigging - solo or band etc)?
These 2 questions help you determine the type of keyboard to about 70-80%. The rest of it is personal preference - sound, touch, look, "X" factor (whatever that is), budget etc.
Until these questions are answered, it will be hard to recommend a keyboard.

And even so, the higher-end PSR is not what you think they are, particularly if you move into PSR1500 and the Tyros. They are also way out of budget (esp the Tyros 2/3).

Sigh, well I guess non keyboardists are entitled to an opinion no matter what though I suspect the testing is not done under similar conditions. I bet the M50 was tested on monitor speakers vs the PSR on its built in speaker or some basic keyboard amp. That is not a fair test.
But to be fair, if you're playing in a rock band the M50 might just suit the poster more but if he can clarify what 'real' keys are, then his 1000 can only buy precious few models.

This part, I don't understand. How can unweighted keys' touch come close to an accoustic piano's?
