Bringing Amp from overseas?

Let's say I want to bring in amp from overseas because local dealer doesn't carry what I want.

But I'm worried about the voltage difference.

Any suggestion from which country should I bring it in that has the same voltage as Singapore?

Thanks

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_with_mains_power_plugs,_voltages_and_frequencies

in there got a list of the power system info worldwide, might like to check from there

Most decent manufacturer shud have their product with the correct power specification, meant for use in different country with different voltage rating. Guess before ordering, just need to confirm with the seller and check for the correct specification, meant for our region.

And even if they send a product meant for 110v/120v etc, to use it locally, can get a step down transformer to use the product.

The step down transformer will lower/stepdown the 230v we are using and provide the right juice, to power up the equipment.

I recently ordered an amp from overseas and got it customed to singapore's voltage conditions. I'm sure any reputable amp builder would be able to do this as well.

Just make sure it's 230V and you're all set.

If not you could always use a step down transformer.

email the amp manufacturer, most modern amps actually have their transformers ready for wiring 240v.

soldano is one that i know of, my avenger was made 240v by randolf using scanned schematics direct from mr soldano. if im not wrong, bad cats as well.

hmm, i'm thinking of ordering from online shops. Not a boutique amp, so i doubt can tailor the power supply. The shops are just a dealer, right? They can't change the parts, I believe.

what is the amp in question?

as i said, some might require a simple wiring job in the transformer that can be done locally, or even better, a variable voltage switch.

If the amp you're interested in bringing in is a Fender, you might want to try ordering in from one of our local dealers.

It would be a much viable option really.

But do some number crunching and see how it works out for you, local dealers here would be able to bring in a 220V version for you, no problem.

Ordering an amp in from overseas would cost you quite some dough in shipping, if you're looking at a combo, it'll possibly run you in about USD$300, plus there's insurance, GST involved too. Also it's gonna cost you for the voltage mod too.

Which fender amp you thinking of getting?

There are loads of options locally. :)

the so called our local dealer (there's only one, I believe) refuse to entertain me. I called, spoke to one of them (the senior staff there), he asked me to drop him email on the detail of my order. But he never reply. I send the same email to their sales department too, also no reply.

When you say there's loads of option for Fender, please enlighten me, which shop other than the so called authorized dealer with such pathetic collection?

Just ask if it's dual primary transformer with 240V option.
If not, don't bother!

Thats it !

Example: Mojave amp came with 110V set up since it was purchased from US but had a dual primary transformer. All it needed was a getting it set to 240V internally and a new pilot lamp for 240V ....checked, bias, double checked ....was ready to rock!!
On other amps there may be other parts to check before conversion if not the above is the standard.
Please be reminded that only a qualified tech should undertake this operation due to high risk lethal DC power generated by these transformers.

Not sure don't try....

Cheers.

I'm refering to Blackwood, they've got loads of killer amps there right now.

If I didn't recently purchase an amp, I'd definitely pick one up from them.

went there, and nope, they don't have what I want. I have suggested what I want too in their thread :D

In fact I already tried to order from them. well, at least they reply my email, not like their opposite neighbour shop :D

Hughes & Kettner amps comes with international voltage selector. Just switch to the approriate voltage in your country & its done. I bought mine from ishibashi & i switched it to 230v & im done. Just that the power socket is different.
