hey what u guys think of bolt-on replicas of guitars which were originally designed with set neck? heard a les paul with a botled-on neck doesnt do justice to its sound..

was attracted to the LTD EX-50....till i saw that it has a bolted-on neck..n then the above comment came to mind..

1) Subjective, in terms of tone, feel of neck joint and perceived sustain

2) try it before you pass any judgement, don't shortchange yourself on what might be the guitar you've been wanting all along. Opinions on the net are as empty till you get your hands on 1 to know what it's all about.

regarding the neck joint, i juz know that access to the higher frets is more limited on a bolt-on SG..cant say the same for the rest tho..i i know bolt-on neck=less sustain..

i used to own a bolt on guitar, and now i have 2 set necks and 1 neck thru, and frankly, the difference in sustain is very marginal.

neck through= from headstock to ass the guitar is 1 piece, wings are stuck on.

set neck= neck is joint by glue to the main body.

bolt on= neck is joint by bolts/screws to the main body.

does a singlecut guitar need to be set-neck? many people have this mind-set when it come to Les Paul-alikes.

in any case the EX-50s are great for the money.

Hm normally like Gibson and Epiphone, they use setneck.

There are copies ( usually cheaper but may not sound inferior like subversion say) use bolt on neck.

unfortunately.... for me... yes.

Sustain, tone etc doesn't even come to the equation as we know bolt ons sounds just as good as set necks or neck thrus.

For me, tone being equal, it'll be more about the looks and feel when it comes to plunking cash for a "les paul-ish" guitar. I'd pay more for a set neck LP.

I think personally I will use a set neck or neck-thru rather than a bolt on, main thing to me is the feel at the upper frets instead, although I hate it when my MIM strat uses a bolt-on neck.

If I'm gigging regularly, having bolt on guitars make sense, in the event a neck breaks or gets damaged.

If I had my way, I would neck thru, for the fret access and clean feel.
