Blues pick-up

gsonique, wow serious?
do BL stacks sounds "compressed"?
do they still quack like a real duck in the 2th and 4th positions?
one thing i can't stand many single coil stacks that are in the market is cos they sound very "compressed" and middy

dammit goose... how come when i repeating bill lawrence no one believed me?

am I that dodgy?

must go temple get flower water to bathe already....

Bill Lawrence the be all and end all of pickups.

I don't think that BL is the end all pup... coz...

People do have different opinions on what is pertains to a "TRUE" single coil tone.

I know NUTS about true single coil tone but I enjoy it immensely in the neck position but can't stand it in the bridge position. Chim? Ring? Bell-like tone? What?

As far as I am concerned, the BLs on Goose's guitar, the L200s, are really sweet sounding. Great clarity, very articulate - have tried noiseless singles that are well, basically humbuckers lah - and they sound like single coils! The noiseless part is KEY.

all those vintage wound singles with hum gives the classic sound you want but does get irritating used with high gain or fuzz pedals....f'more humbucks in a single package is nice but its still humbucks ....then we got the noiseless fellas who are succesfull makin singles hum free but sacrifice the bite and megaschucks through dirt for the crunch.

But the Bill fella kinda got it right ...how ...i donno ...

As for humbucks the HAS Sound fella got some wicked jomo goin on ya !!

....i don't use high output overwound ...active pups ... :smt011 ...tone killers!!

I've heard good things about Bill Lawrence and the others, but I'm partial to Lindy Fralins Blues Specials.

They are well-balanced, noiseless, and deliver the crunch when you need to crank it up.

lindy fralins noiseless?

cannot hear the noise or is it technically a "noiseless" pickup

as far as i know, lindy makes nice single coils for not "noiseless" single coils.

I think when u say blues pickups, it's more on choosing the kind of mid/high and power.

From my little knowledge of pickups, the more power u have, the more high u lose. Low power better for chord works. So then it goes back to what kind of blues u want to play.

I would say the quality and clarity of the pickups is the underlying more important factor to research into, before it comes to whether u want more mids or more high etc etc, coz that will be just choosing the model of the pickup.

Bro Edder Bro... yup i think so too arh... must woodshed and then wen comfirm then time to consult unker Bill Lawrence.

Pickups for blues is pretty subjective because Blues itself is such a wide genre. Be it Single coils or Humbucker I generally think of pups and blues as such:

1. Low Output: Old time Classic Blues right up to Jimi Hendrix
2. Medium Output: Blues Rock as in Gary Moore Aerosmith. GnR...
3. High Output: Shredders who are out to out shred any blues players... in other words it's so beyond blues it's called "Neo Blues"

:D

8O

now i am more confused.. hahah... i was hoping you all narrow down to like 4-5 ... haha....

anyways i not very particular .... anyway like what some of u say... its more to do with the effects and amp config....

anyways i think i mite go for the BL... since i used it b4 ... but see see la... skalli i win the big sweep.... den i go buy myself a brand new les paul custom or soemthing... lol

I'd recommend the Texas Special Strat Pickups...they're sound heavenly (taste just as good too if you've played with your tongue before like I have!)

Yes, penta...that guitar churns up the blues well too. Nice solid twang to it.

But I did use a pal's fender with the Texas' on and I personally liked them very much. The tonal balance is just great.

:)
