hey, i ain't racist but that's the truth.
so much for a multi-racial country. whatever happened to our roots man...
whatever happened to Singapura.
 
Multi-racial? It never existed ever since speaking Mandarin is considered as a crucial factor to get a job. And I do agree on both, Singapore English is bad, and that Beyonce is overrated.

And no you don't need to have an accent to speak good English. The way any American speaks is not an accent, it's just proper speaking English. The only difference is the way we spell.

and i'ma let you finish in a minute, but mel gibson's made the most offensive diss toward a group of people of all time.
 
she could have ben misquoted.

none the less, i'm not surprise that many government bodies like the speak good english movement defended Ris Low's English. (reported on Straits Times).

i mean - i just attended Lasalle's convocation today and the guest of honour was someone from the prime minister's office and he spoke EXACTLY like Ris Low.

I'm quite sure she said that at a point in her interview/concert where she didn't have anything else better to say. You know, mental blocks during interviews or stage performances can make you say some reaaaaally dumb things.

So I guess we just have to recognise that we DO have a problem and we should fix it.
 
Alright. Our command of English is simply poor. Move along. Deal with it. There, I've spoken the truth. I don't even consider my English to be good.

Technically, what she did say was that we do not speak good English. I don't know where the part about her commenting that our English sucked came from. There is a clear and distinct difference between the two.

And no. You don't have to speak like an Angmoh or a Sarong Party Girl to have a decent command of English. Learn to speak slower, drop the "lah", "hor", "meh" and work on the darn sentence structure.

Lastly, please... no fake accents, it just sounds stupid. Not here and especially not in Western countries.

Maria Ozawa is petite? I saw her at Akihabara once for a signing ceremony.. She's tall! Not exactly petite lei... You want petite? Yua Aida is petite... And uber hot!

No it's not... Proper English is known as Queen's English. It's british. And not the cockney accents you hear in London. It's mainly found amongst the aristocracy. American english is still spoken with an accent. The further south you go, the stronger the drawl. Like "I" would be "AAH" instead of "AIE".

Hehehe.. I wasn't exactly thinking of Maria Ozawa when I was typing the word 'petite' but I figured most of you peeps will be able to recognize that famous name with much more ease than if I had said maybe.. I don't know.

When you're ang moh and you speak with a slang (i.e. not proper english) you're cool.

When you're a Singaporean and you speak Singlish (i.e. not proper english) you're NOT cool.

How does that work out MAN (or huh)?
 
In addition to english, I think in general Singaporeans cant speak mandarin properly too.. LHL's mandarin speech is really.. facepalm.

perhaps bilingualism = suck at both languages?

maybe we should do away with all languages and learn only Singlish. Its so widely used in well known institutions such as the SAF.
