i have a sss config strat copy and i wanna play songs from bands like oasis, the beatles and dashboard confessional. any recommendations on what kind of pickups to get? do i need a single coil sized humbucker?

wad amp do u have?
cos the bands u listed aint really heavy death metal bands or something .
dont the single have enough crunch?

I just think you need a semi-hollow guitar.. Lol..
Anyways bro, why is it that you intend to change pickups?
Is there something lacking? Could it be the amp which does not enable you to get the tone you want? Maybe pedals?
Just remember, always look at the amp first.. A 100 dollars guitar going through a 3000 dollars amp would sound better than a 3000 dollar guitar going through a 100 dollar amp..

i second wht godspeed says: get a good amp over a good guitar first!

anyway, noel uses semi-hollow i think. i m looking for one cheap semi-hollow too. =)

somehow no one answered your question..
in my opinion, the budz purebred pickups are the best i've heard for a vintage tone. =] using them on my strat. call up malcolm for more details or just google it.

woah thanks for all the answers. im using a laney x35d, lace golds and a zoom g2 multi for prac at home. i cant really get the exact sound i want at the moment. the oasis songs have this unique tone that i cant really describe except it sounds a lil like a trumpet sometimes during the solos. noel gallagher uses a few semi hollows like the supernova thats right but is there a way i can get as close a sound possible?

You want vintage tone? I take it? Ever considered stock Fender pickups? I wouldn't recommend you get the SCNs cos they're very contemporary sounding, but maybe a CS 54s? or Fat 50s?

YouTube - oasis guitar solo - amazing

ok its roughly this sound in the solo.

You won't get this tone with a single coil. It's a low output humbucker.

What's giving that tone the nice hollow chime is also the amp. It's a vintage tube tone.

Something like what you'll get from a Laney VC15-110 and a ES335.

If you want something in a humbucker that fits your strat, then maybe a... ahh... dammit... nothing in a single coil will sound like that... Sorry. You need a full sized humbucker.

A Lace Sensor pickup won't give you that in a single coil for sure.

whitestrat, any pedals that u can recommend that can give that kind of sound the amp produces?

There was one... I remember my old AMT Electronics Platinum Tube Distortion pedal gave a very similar tone to this. It has a 12AX7 tube built in. I think there are other pedals that might give this. The Mi Tubezone OD is like this too, and I think the Ibanez Tube King might be as well. Not sure.

But it's more like a sum of the total parts that's at play. Don't expect the pedal to deliver everything. The guitar and amp matter too...

Sub, you wanna chime in here for the pedal suggestions?

roughly how much is it to reroute to hss and how much to install the pull push pot switch? just calculating how much ive to spend

I don't know. Check with some local stores. Rerouting if you don't have the cavity cut already is irreversible. Think on this. Though, I don't expect it to cost more than $500.

heh, swimming pool cavity. You can do a nigel tufnel "spinal tap" pickup mod on it... Like this
