Best non-digital bedroom amp?

So I decided I should change my amp before changing my pedal...I know I'm gonna a lot of flak for the non-digital thing but while I'm not a tone purist or whatever they're called, you can't deny that there is a difference between analog and digital.

My budget isn't very big...probably about 300 - 400. So besides the Ibanez amps, what bedroom amps are there with the best tone? I don't mind if it's a 1st or 2nd hand.

P.S I just don't like Ibanez amps...not sure why, but I just don't...please understand, =)

My MG15CDR is getting cranky hence the reason for a change.

Currently thinking of the Marshall AVT20X after looking through the amp question I posted last time..

Don' Valbees have a small speaker? That'll make it lack in something compared to a 10"/12" one, won't it?

IMHO, valve junior and AVT20 are WAY LOUD for bed room use, have them both in my bed room. especially valve junior, you have to crank it all the way up to get very nice distortion (like all tube amps do).

the small speaker can have limited frequency response, but it also helps to lower the sound pressure level (bedroom friendly).

Hmm.

Ever thought of the Vox Pathfiner 15R? definitely way below your budget range... which means more moolah for pedals / guitar zhnging stuff!

with 300-400 budget, try to get one with at least a 10" speaker.

since u mention non-digital, it may be that u don't need those built in modulation effects. Then just concentrate on one that has a decent clean sound and eq controls.

Different amps may be good for different needs.

If u are using pedals, I think better test with your pedals so that u know if the amp works decently well with analog pedals. Some don't

If u mainly want to use the amp built-in distortion, then it's a different story.

Just some tots to share. Good luck :)

imo speaker size doesnt matter since it is for bedroom usage.
what you need of cos is an amp that sounds good without having to turn up the volume.

since you dont want those digital efx etc, my personal fav has always been the kustom tube12.
sounds real good at volumes below 5, way better than whatever other small amp in its price range (ie. vox, roland).
past 6 or so, then speaker starts to breakup a little.
the ibanez valbee is also a good choice.

you sure dont need 15w tube amps at home, df dude. JE bro is right, these things need to be cranked all the way up to get a nice distorted sound.

Me visited SL a couple of days back. As you guyz know, June is coming soon, so is the SALE, well, maybe.. Thinking of getting a Laney LC15R. After testing, felt that its too much for room-use. My valbee doing its job well at home. Unless you got a sound-proof room, then go ahead dude..

However, if you have lobang for those mesa 525 or 550, then its another story. 25w/50w with optional output attuenation to 5w. :)

i second the mesa express 5:50. been gasing for it ever since the f series were around for a long time... the power attenuation option makes it even more desirable..

loud!!

My valbee doing its job well at home

i kind of think it's still too loud. i run my valve junior into a 10" celestion. it's way loud for bedroom (even living room for that matter :? )

the thing about tube amps, most of the time, the rating is in RMS output in clean. so 5W RMS will potentially give close to 10W output . (efficiency of the speaker counts too). as long as loudness is concerned, if you want to reduce the loudness by half, you got to reduce the power to 1/10.

on that note, i *think* a good tube amp (all amp for that matter) for bedroom useage should be about 0.5W.

loud? i'll tell u wads loud!

THE SMELLY STINKIN AUNTIE NEIGHBOUR SOMEWHERE IN THE BLOCK HAVING A KARAOKE SESSION!!!

TTS LOUD! :x

0.5 watt amps aren't really mass produced. therefore much much more expensive from boutique makers like zvex, matchless, dr.z etc. might as well get a 5 watt with attenuator built in or yellow jackets, since its only for the bedroom and not for gigging or jamming.
