Baritone Guitars

Hi everyone,

Just a question, I understand baritone guitars have longers scales so that they can be tuned down further, but this serves what purpose?

so that they can cover the frequency spectrum between the bass guitar and the regular guitars (which if i'm not wrong are alto or soprano)..

just as you have soprano saxophones, alto, baritone, tenor and bass saxophones..

Longer scale = more string tension.

So when you detune, you still have an acceptable tension, otherwise, floppy strings abound.

So 8 string guitar or baritone???? hmmm

The lady below in the youtube vidz looks hot!!!!

7 string lah... with the 7, you still can use 25.5" without mudding up, just need to use a slightly thicker gauge for the low B (or A).

On an 8, if you go for a low F... well, on 25.5"... that's... erm. Use bass strings?

Methinks extended range = more strings > longer scale.

But, a 7 string 27" scale is where the mojo is at.

I find that using USACG baritone scale 28 5/8" works best with the standard available baritone gauge from Elixirs @ B tuning. B strings rings out well.

WD Music's deep six 27.67" feels very sloppy with the Elixirs but they do sell custom gauges from Labella = $$$$

I have a Gretsch G1255 Synchromatic 6 string bass adapted to baritone B tuning also a bit sloppy. The neck scale is probably an extended version of a regular Gibson 24 3/4", I think... maths fail. Can't do the extension.
