Barge Concepts is proud to announce the release and general availability of the BP-1 Fuzz/Overdrive/Distortion pedal. The Barge Concepts BP-1 is an enhanced implementation of a vintage Interfax HP-1 Harmonic Percolator®. The HP-1 is an infamous and unique fuzz/overdrive effect, designed to enhance pleasing even-order harmonics while suppressing the less pleasing odd-order. Vintage versions of the legendary HP-1 are nearly impossible to find, and most modern-era copies just aren't the same.

Barge Concepts has upgraded the original HP-1 design with a high impedance, 0-20 dB gain input buffer with footswitch-operated true bypass, and a low impedance output buffer with dual internal true bypass micro slide-switches. An overall 3PDT true bypass footswitch is also provided, and dual color, Blue/Red LEDs indicate all foot switch states.

With its input and output buffers are disabled, the BP-1 is a highly accurate replica of the vintage Interfax HP-1. In this 'stock' configuration, the BP-1 offers input level (Harmonics) and output volume (Balance) controls that exactly duplicate the function of the originals. With the input buffer active and the gain (Drive) turned up, the unit takes on a new character and improves the touch-sensitivity of the un-amped setup. Turn up the Drive and use the Harmonics control to get everything from a mild boost to outrageous fuzz and distortion textures. The wide dynamic range of effect makes a wealth of sounds available by manipulation of your instrument's volume control or by varying the intensity of your pick attack.

i remember building a certain Tim version clone of the HP and completely forgotten abt it ...easy two Si transistor build (the original was said to beone Si and one Ge ) !!

An acquired taste but has lots of possibilities and nice used with a muff after ... :D

btw taken from Chuck Collins site abt his take on the HPc : This is a faithful duplication of the effects pedals created by Ed Giese of Interfax Electronics in Milwaukee Wisconsin during the 1970's. The term Harmonic Percolator has been trademarked. I am happy to be able to provide a genuine product and also to protect the name from incorrect circuit representations! Sorry Barge Concepts, it indeed does use NPN and PNP transistors!

I'd say an acquired taste indeed...

didn't seem to do much to me when I tried it out on benwen's rig, but I haven't played ard too much with it.

I'll let benwen talk abt it in detail!

I WANTED ONE!!!!

I was even on the original list where the BPs were sold for just 109USD.

But I had to prioritise and got a voodoo labs PP2+ instead.

I really liked the sound samples a TON.

200? That's a bit pricey?

Btw, Barge Concepts is a very nice company. I bought stuff from them before, very quick email responses, detailed and polite!

expensive is subjective, considering the no waiting time plus if no credit card, imho. Its still an ok price. Heh, its all good as long the person buying feel its worth it.

A good listen to the clip of the real deal at Frenzy ...i hear the rumble !!

Btw the schematic at Barges is either delibrate mistake or they got it wrong !! :D

Can .... we use wank power ya ...so no need 9v batt ya!!
So every time you wank it gets charged  .....

wow idea of the decade 8O

What is wanking goose? Can you show me?

Okay... we needs to stop. :P

ANY LOVE FOR THE HARMONIC PROCOLATOR SAY HELL YEAH!!!

HELLA!!!

Dude the tremolo back and forth movement ... :smt011 please don't get carried away boi .... :D

Seriously bro ...if u really fancy one ...i can build one for yer .... maybe in that unused small loop pedal of yours

Yep, I have the BP-1. It's a very trebly pedal imho so I usually play around with my guitar's tone control to fix that (not much of a way else to do so). If you've got a dark sounding guitar, I guess this would be a nice hybrid fuzz/od to plug it into.

And shredcows, why is $200 expensive? Considering how new the pedal itself is (production life). That US$109 was a limited time offer and the usual price now is US$153.

many people get carried away with the harmonic percolator hype... there was someone who's famous who used it... a producer kinda fella...

is it steve albini? shellac?

not really my kinda pedal.

its all about the piercing tone. can cut thro the mix...

wait... its all about cutting thro the mix.

*shrugs*

Twas a question more than a statement from me if anything.
