Band Competition Prizes Is Too Little?

Just to add, not just in music, but in many other areas, like design for example, there are numerous competitions all year round. There are well-organized competitions, and there are poorly thought-out ones. There are those which genuinely intend to unearth and nurture talent, there are those which are plain exploitative or maybe a cheap publicity stunt.

Here's the bottom line. You do the research, and weigh the results. You decide which one is worth your time, effort, everything. No one is forced into joining a competition. You decide. You're responsible for yourself.

Hahaha...just read this thread and somehow I want to write...I think most of us including me, joining a band competition is a getaway from office life to have fun and boil our young blood rather than money and fame :D....if you want money and fame....spend some on marketing and advertising lah....

Prizes are not important

Well, if you think the prizes are not attractive then don't participate. Think of the good side when you join a competition. Firstly, it gives you a chance to perform in front of a crowd. Secondly, your band will be up one level because you practice like crazy trying to reach the finals. I am sure most of you will realize that your band will become tighter and tighter as you move nearer to the finals.Lastly, you get exposure and you make more friends. If prizes are the only reason you participate in a competition then don't waste your time. Buy Toto.

Hey, everyone wants bigger prize money. Ask yourselves, if you were an organizer, and if you had a hundred grand to give out to the winning band, why not? The whole competition would seem grand, people would be going," Whoa, that's the competition with the big sponsors and the big prize money!" It will look good for both the winning band, and the organizer's rep. It all boils down to the organizer's ability to get the connections for sponsors.

Another thing, if you really want the money(and maybe sell your soul in the process), why not join Mediacorp's band competition? It's $60,000, and that's a whole lot of money.

real musicians don't do it for the money. if you find music too expensive a hobby, you need to ask yourself how much your passion is worth
