Band Competition Prizes Is Too Little?

Well, I can agree that we play music for passion (although some really are money-minded)...

But, currently I'm observing on those organizers, they will let you play if you meet some ticket quotas... And I totally don't agree on that....

I mean, even though less people are attending, the shows must still go on...

i wouldn't mind $100 worth of macs. Imagine all the chicken mcnuggets!
WAHHHHHHHH!!!!
And the ultimate upsize!
WAHHHHHHHH!!!.......
WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

aiya, the satisfaction of winning is enough already...

if dun win, still make friends! so well, proceed at own discretion! haha

so honestly, 100 mac vouchers... well... can fund my hiong study days before exams!

its better than trying to sell your own CD. you profit more winning 250 bux..haha. Unless ur band plays taiwanese/chinese stuff which are catchy and the whole band is good looking(cute cute dragonball hairstyle). An example of such a band is F4 or 5566(yes, boyband ) . you get the picture la.

$100 macdonalds food voucher is good stuff.

mcchicken and doublecheese is $2 now. that's 25 burgers each.

if you consume 2 burgers a day. can almost last you one month without worrying about food.

oh yeah can also make money by making a "local documentary called : $2 Mcdonalds diet (supersize me singapore edition)"

many "clever" americans ate macdonalds too much until they're so fat that they sue them and won millions of dollars... u can be the next adam khoo and retire at 30 years old with that money man!!!

singaporeans ah...everything complain..why this like that..why that is like this..

why swee lee so far from mrt...all the way to these kinda trivial stuff..

yeah man...

y the buses everytime dun stop so that the front door is right infront of me?! they force me to walk 3 feet to GET onto the bus... what kinda crap service is this...

y they build an overhead bridge on a road which is jay-walkable?! make me gotta climb up 2 flights of stairs... AND climb down TWO flights of stiars...

y did god give me such a small brain... damn!

james sir, with all due respect, we are not goin off topic but merely giving food for thought.

why is it that we tend to be so self centered and uncompromising, in a sense that we want everything to be for our own benefit, irregardless of who is inconvenienced or at whose expense it will be at?

no offence to the threadstarter, but have you (threadstarter) tried holding band competitions? do you know the costs involved? do you understand that u may or may not make any profit at all?

why not see it in a positive light? that you can showcase your talents for a very small price and gain some experience in public performance.

would you (threadstarter) do such a thing? holding a band competition with such a big amount of prize money?

having said that, i would like to emphasize that its easier said than done.

you mentioned about the prize money not being able to cover the cost of jamming and other stuff, but think about it. a band takes part in the competition at their own free will.moreover, they should already be informed before hand, how much the top prize is worth.noone is forced at gunpoint or at knifepoint.

lastly, think the prize money is too meagre? simple, dont take part! :)

deathism

the threadstarter states that the prize from band competition is not much.

from the many competitions out there, i think this is true.

this is not self centered. instead, it is for the better of the whole industry.

we have to ask ourself, what is the purpose of having band competition? we want to raise the standard of bands! how to do it? attract good bands to compete. how to attract? have BIG prize.

it is not easy, that's why not many organisers can do it.

for a while I feel that there's both sides to every point.

lets talk about : competition = winner gets big money. 6 digits. in pure cash. not in "worth of behringer equipment. free jamming hours with terrible terms and conditions." etc.

personally I feel. yes it will motivate and raise standards of bands. but suddenly it does look like "we're just doing it for the money." there'll be bands competing like for example PMFP ("Poor Musicians For Passion"), and FFAM ("For Fame And Money")

band PMFP would totally go against the idea of joining competition. but they really could use that cash if they keep their minds clean and focus on the passion. they'll deserve it.

band FFAM would usually be those pretty boy/well dressed as if he's going to zouk or MOS/puts on make up before gig, loaded parents who's sponsored them a room jam studio to practise in and has lots of groupie girlfriends supporting them. and that sucks especially when it comes to a competition, it's all about the audience casting votes or "which band has loudest screams from the audience".

you starting to see my point here? so many times you see musicians who deserve more credit lose out cos of "lacking SMSes votes" or "no audience support" (fact : PMFP don't have groupie friends like FFAM) then turns out competition would always seem to be "fixed" that bands with most supporters win. and competitions that appoint the most technical skilled band but no supporters. usually run out of funds to continue organising competition..

so for those who also feel that competitions are "fixed" as i said, and you stay away from them. good for you too, you're in another competition of your own yourself. you can carry on playing at gigs until one fine day you win the biggest prize of all whether is it clinching deals with major label, or have a true blue crowd of fans, writing a super hit song that changes people's lives (if that happens it'll change yours too actually) and accomplish more fulfilment than just winning 1st prize.

p.s : btw no offence to the SOFTies who come from a more well off family (not that you can help it). but if you find yourself in this category, it'll be your time to reflect what your music is all about. ask yourself what is your band/music's worth without your fans. i believe this's the reason why there're so many hidden talents out there that stays low profile and just do their thing. because they know their worth. (either that or they just simply bo chap)

70¢ worth.
