I am running a survey of all the people who sold their gears in Singapore local market..Please speak out from your heart, if you really got the price you expected ot Local buyer sucks !

Seriously, it's not really that local buyer sucks... it's the seller price their 2nd hand gear too damn high which is not justifiable at all. I would rather buy a brand new piece of gear.

For example: a seller want to sell his bass amp for $500 and it's already three years old. He bought it at $1000, but the price of a brand new one is only $750, might still be able to get some discount. which will you chose?? Of course the brand new one right.

All gear's value have already drop at least 20-30% once you purchace it.

For example: you buy a piece of gear today at $1000 and want to sell it tomorrow, you can only sell it at $800.

That my point of view.

i agree with zap. as a buyer , I rather get stuff from ebay if the local price is really not right. the guy would really have no choice but to reduce the price if his item is low in demand, despite whatever condition. otherwise don't sell.
as a seller, I only do 3 things. sell it cheap/reasonable as i can on yahoo (http://user.auctions.shopping.yahoo.com/sg/user/blueprintstudios_auction) , or trade with someone for something else thats useful , or , instead of throwing it away. sell it to cash converters a.k.a "Trash Converters".. the money they offer will only be worth if its as good as throwing it away.

anyway.. the only price that doesn't drop as time passes is anything with the description of "Vintage" in it.. provided good condition.

subjective

i think its all very subjective. there are couple of factors for the buyer/seller:

1. the desirability of the instrument
2. how much the buyer/seller is willing to part with it
3. your financial situation at the time
4. your level of GAS (i think this one the most impt!)

i've had a couple of bad experiences being buyer and seller. most sellers take offence at the prices i offered them! hello, your samick is not a gibson ok??? and some buyers offer ridiculous prices to push their luck, like 30 bucks for a zoom bass pedal. c'mon!!!!!

maybe i think it more of a case of "want, don't want, done." don't need to waste more time arguing for better prices. one bad deal (whether bad price/seller/buyer) ignored gives way for another better deal to come by.
some people are in desperate need of cash and would drop an item at any low price as long as higher than cash converters. (sorry. got bad experience with CC.)

to each his own i guess heheh.

Local buyers truely suck. Yes, this is a blanket term, but there is due reason for my view.

Yes, I do agree that sellers themselves must also value their items correctly, which could lead to another thread, so local sellers suck...

Anyway, why do local buyers suck. Because of the perpetual kiasu siege mentality. As a seller, I am not asking for your blood. Many buyer have a bad sense of value, agreed, if you can find a better deal on Ebay or buy a new one, PLEASE DO, no one is forcing you to buy from the 2nd hand seller.

And who thought about once buy value drops 20%?? What is that logic? Essentially all shops are "reselling" their stuff, all their goods are tried and played many times and man handled from workshop to shop front. The value should be based on desireability, condition, amount of modification and genuine value to you. If you find any fault, ask for lower price, just because it's preowned doesn't mean value goes down. Eric Clapton's crap guitar costs US$945,000. If you feel the seller is ripping you off, refer to the previous point..dun buy from him.

Many buyers "fear" that sellers earn too much. WHY the heck do you even think about such things? I constantly hear things like, "Aiyoh..I tell you, the seller earn alot lor!...", i even get buyers asking "Wah, you sell such price, you sure earn lor!" How much the seller earns doesn't matter, the only thing that matters is the value to YOU. Dun like? DUn buy lor, no need to grumble.

I have buyers asking for another 20+% discount even if I slash the price by 50% on a 1 year old product in perfect condition. Worse still are people who bidded and confirmed auction (YahooauctionsSG especially) agreements, and when time to deal, try to bargain. Totally unacceptable, I will scold such idiots on the spot. Many local buyers forget that a auction is like a legal contract, if you guys do this on Ebay, you'll get complaints and get kicked quick!

Bottom line, it takes 2 hands to clap, no one is perfect, sellers have their flaws, but the above are my opinions on the "sucky" local buyers. Bargaining is ok BEFORE agreement, and bargaining is definitely ok if it's based on condition flaws..etc, not on pure sentiments that everytime an item change hands value drop 20%.

9 out of 10 deals I have done has buyers doing the above....SAD!!

My statistics are hopefully not a good sample of local buyers, but it warrants my views.
