I confess, I've never heard of Green Day before their recent comeback. American Idiot does have some good messages in it although it might be a bit off...and I like their other songs, like Whatsername : )

lol, i used to like green day a lot, in pri school, but when american idiot came out, i was pretty pissed cos people who never heard of rock music before in their whole life suddenly popped out and saying silly things like "they are the greatest rock band"...etc. I accept the band as they are, at that standard, but Im really irritated by those punks who didnt listen to green day all along(even though ppl tried to introduce it to them), and then suddenly they think its so cool, all because its being played on the radio...and they think that Green Day is some "new and rising band", and they think American Idiot is their first album, when Green Day is actually so old, and has many songs that are much better than most songs in American Idiot! ALL BECAUSE OF RADIO!!

That happen to bands whom is featured in radio.. Same thing happen to My chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy too.. Anyway.. I prefer their dookie and nimrod album.. :twisted:

MichaelAngelo - Well I always take the media with a big pinch of salt. They basically kill almost all the good music. Bring any young but promising band to international stardom overnight is just as good as wrecking their futures in a second. All in my humble opinion.

songs which are played in the radio usually gets a lot of attention...many people like these songs and they term the bands that play " best band" or "best music"... there's a lot of good stuff that u can get not from the radio..there's like Dream Theatre and stuff...and last year, perfect ten organise a show regarding best song of the year...and hoobastank won with- the reason... people go nuts hearing that song... i'm not trying 2 say that the songs out of the radio are no good, but in terms of music, a musician should get their songs from any where

listened to them since Dookie. not a bad band in their own right. American Idiot is not bad IMHO. and the album is suppose to be a "concept antiwar" album... a great band live. funny thing is, they cover Queen's "we are the champions".

Greenday just keeps me rocking evrytime their albums come out.

Green Day is about the only punk band I listen to. I get flak when my friend flips my CD album case and find American Idiot or whatever in there amongst Emperor and Soilwork. Come on man, cut me some slack. I need my dosage of pop punk once in a while you know....

Agreed... I had a friend's friend who was showing me all this cool shit, playing notes at high speed but when I ask to play some songs he told me he dun play chords coz he's a lead guitarist, duh!

Actually, mediocrity is subjective. I know alot of players who shreds and do all the legato stuffs but they don't even know what they are playing. They have troubles coming up with a 3 chord riff on their own. Technicality in all its glory, is never better than originality.

Green day's one of the most 'fun' bands i've ever listened to.
To me, punk music is all about having fun. You dont really have to be technically able to play the guitar since its all barchords and i believe that's what makes it so fun! :twisted:

its kinda sad to see some people not liking them just because they dont play the guitar like soloists and such - but i believe music = creativity and they've got what it takes in their length! I dont knwo what im talking about but yea, just dont refer them to 'scratch cock' guitaring band.

i listen to GD too and i absolutely love their music. i agree that you dont hafta be technically superior to produce such energetic punk rock such as what GD has produced. thoroughly enjoyable and fun to listen to
