hello folks! was wondering, cuz i'm using strats almost exclusivly now, that is there any pedal that can sota make my single coils emulate a humbucking sound just like thicken or fatten the tone, is there?

Demeter makes a mid boost. Its very musical sounding. You could try.

Another thing to try - for dirt - is fuzz. Single coils and fuzz = wonderful stuff that can get really thick. Youtube it.

before spending any money to buy pedals to emulate humbucker or fatten the sound(theres not much dedicated pedals doing that. Before anyone suggest eq, eq might fattern the sound, but it still doesnt make it sounds like humbucker imho...some of those which can do the single coil humbucker thingy, are part of multiefx/effect modelling device usually(roland vg series, line 6 variax or yamaha magicstomp),

without changing the characteristic of the clean sound l(by adding any distortion or fuzz), heres my suggestion

1) Install those humbucker pickup in single coil size, from seymour duncan if not wrong. How well, how good, how how. I dont know, either google round for the model or wait for some others in the forum here who use those to chip in. Those are humbucker, but in single coil size.

2) Cheapest way(as compare to buying more gear to get the fatter sound) and opening up tonal choices of strat with single coil to sound huge and fat, without changing the original look of the geetar itself. Rewire the whole thing to get any of the 3 single coil to be in series or all 3 single coil in series. Most geetar wiring is parallel. If you can or find someone to rewire the pickup in series and activated by a push pull pot, you will still have the 5 sound setting plus the single coil in series sound.

2 or 3 single coil in series will sound fattter and louder.

If you wanna more of fatter and choices in strat, go here

i have tried the above and it works. If you wanna something less, just search around the forum there, there shud be some info on getting the single coil pickup in series wiring. If not, just google around.

Alternatively, many people forget about the tone knob... I think playing around with the tone knob can fatten up the sound quite a bit... Especially on a high gain pedal.

Whatddya think Pathein??

Tone knobs work wonders.

But gotta get the right value...

Strangely though, I find it works better on Teles and P90s.... for some reason, a strat's bridge single (for example) doesn't "morph" like a tele / p90-equipped gtr when the tone control comes into play.

Maybe its the cap/pot value/taper.

ah yeah, tone knob as well. But have to depend on what the thread started have in mind i guess. Heh, theres few suggestion liao, hope at least theres some trying and be back for some field report!

yeap, i did try, but like said by shred, for strats on higher gain settings, the tone knob sounds rather.. erm redundant, there is no significant change in sound other than a slight drop in, trebs/mids.

as for wiring, my guit has been fitted with a push pull pot that activates all three single coils, but weahter it's in seriese or parallel, i'm not too sure, but what i do know is that, it becomes a little darker on clean and gain settings when activated

find someone to check and see whats the push pull in the geetar is meant to be.

If the push pull is on the tone knob and it just darken the sound when activated, it cud be dual capacitor(just a guess, without seeing whats in there) instead of the usual one

when 2 or more single coil are in series, it will be much louder. The most obvious difference will be position 2 and 4(bridge+middle/middle+neck). It sounds fatter and louder then the stock wiring where its wired in parallel

Adding to what PatheinRaindropMoe said

get a single coil size "Seymour Duncan Hotrails"
its more humbucker sounding then some full sized humbuckers : )

You know, I'm selling a Morley JD-10, which is supposed to be a Humbucker emulator.

Surf harmony central for a review...

I think it does thicken up the sound, but it's always dirty. I can't seem to get a good clean sound out of it.

- if you get stacked single coil or so call noiseless pickups, u will get a fatter and fuller tone out of a strat. But personally, I would not put such pickups onto a strat. Coz getting a strat is to get the single coil sound

- Some overdrive pedals are more bassy than other. So getting one of such may help a little. Otherwise try eq, or even a compressor
