Just checking to see if there are any Rush fans here.

I love their music and I really like their take in musical genres like blues rock, progressive, new wave, synth etc etc..I think these 3 guys (Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, Neil Peart) are talented musicians in their own right.

The most listened Rush song in my mp3 player is Subdivisions ..I also love songs like Tom Sawyer, YYZ, Working Man, etc etc.

I'm sure most of us would like to see them perform here :)

Ur thoughts!

Oh yes, Xanadu, my fav song from A Farewell To Kings. The opening riff is memorable.I saw the live video of them playing that song in the 80s and Alex and Geddy look cool with their double necked guitar and bass :)

i was never a fan of bands that involved heaps of modulation during their songs but Rush is one of the rare bands i listen to. Maybe because Alex lifeson makes modulation with his playing sound so awesome.

I think they sound a lot like Sabbath, and they have really really good riffs and arrangements. One of Canada's finest.

And when came to the 80s, they had a new wave synth influence but overall, its still trademark Rush..:P

Does anybody notice that Neil Peart looks like Tom Hanks ?:P

YYZ FTW!!! whoooo. haha. rush is one of the best bands out there imo. their instrumentals are really really really awesome.

legendary band, aren't they. they influenced some of my favorite modern prog bands so it's hard not to enjoy their music.

spirit of radio gotta be my favourite..

used to only like all the old school sounding rush like the trees, closer to the heart, limelight, tom sawyer etc.. but recently start to appreciate all the synth heavy ones like subdivisions and force ten \m/

Absolutely!

Faizal,

I'm a HUGE Rush fan! These guys define the term "Power Trio". Unparalleled arrangement and musicianship skills. I would be over the moon if they came to Singapore, but I don't think that will probably happen.

Perfecting Spirit of Radio note for note remains a lifelong ambition. :) I'm about 90% there these days.

You can learn a lot by learning Lifeson's guitar parts / songs: phrasing, chord / melody and use of delay and modulation to simulate multiple guitars, mixed time signatures, good "noisy" soloing, the list goes on and on....

Btw, you can take a "lesson" from the man himself--video lessons by Lifeson himself for Spirit of Radio, Limelight, and Tom Sawyer here: http://www.ivideosongs.com/search/artist/rush/1630.aspx

These are great! I learned some really interesting insights into playing them by hearing him comment on some of the "tricks" he uses to play them well.

CogitoAngMoh: Glad to hear a fellow Rush fan! I'll definitely watch if they ever come here, it will be an experience :) Thanks for the lesson link, btw..Mr Lifeson is probably one of the most underrated players in the world and should be receiving recognition for his guitar playing. I even heard accusations that the edge of U2 stole his riffs, saw the comments on Youtube..for example, the intro guitar riff to Xanadu sounds kinda U2 like..

And surprisingly , Rush is still NOT in the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame. Their recent concerts are full of humour, like they play the clip from South Park before they played Tom Sawyer and a parody of the 3 Stooges..hehe..

Spirit Of Radio is a brilliant song. Killer intro riff, reggae influence in the middle and amazing arrangements.

If Rush don't make the R&R HOF soon, we need to protest on their behalf--that is a total injustice!

I agree that Lifeson has not got the credit he deserves. The criticism on him used to be that he was too much of a Jimmy Page clone in Rush's early days, but I think that is completely unfair and doesn;t take into account how his playing evolved into a very unique "signature" sound. I've copped so much from his style personally.

The Snakes and Arrows DVD is really good (and funny)...got it from my good friend at Memphis Music at Peninsular Plaza.

Thanks to Dream Theater, I became a Rush fan and got me into the whole Progressive genre...

For a 3 piece band, they sound HUGE live!

being a RUSH fan in singapore is pretty lonely in Singapore....so far i have only met one hardcore fellow.....he even have their album in vinyl...

I love Finding my Way, working Man,the trees, La villa strangiao( cannot remember spelling) and too many others to name..even the later albums like ROll the bones sounded real great to me too....inside that album there is also an instrumental number ..i love it too...

love that dinasaur DVD...hahah

glad to know there are so many fans....YYZ and Tom Sawyer used to be often played in PUBs here in Singapore...
