Amps of the World!!!!

shreddie... i got no answer for you!

My motto is, if it sounds good, it sounds good. I don't like to make decisions solely based on the type of components used and the brand and the number.

That's true - that's why I'm asking about the differences in sound when its an opamp or jfet pre-amp.

Any answers?

Widdly seems like the knowledgeable sort too.

hey dudes, anybody mind giving a review on the mesa boogie dual rectifier cause i might be getting one?? thanks alot :D:D

Orange Rockerverb 50 Head into Orange PPC 4X12
DSC_0153.jpg

Features: 7
2 Channels Clean & Dirty. as simple as that really. beautiful reverb. from slight to lush. quite a range of reverb on this amp. enough for any genre in my opinion of course. the cleans have bass and a treble EQ's. which are very responsive. info from goose is there's an 'always on'' bright cap in the clean circuit giving it its chimey tone. but because of this, doesn't take overdrives very well. can be tweaked but still not as well as many other amps. channel switching and reverb footswitchable but footswitch comes separately. both the reverb and the EFX loop is tube driven. the efx loop is great. simple amp. this amp sounds great both single coil and humbucker.

Sound: 7(stock) 10(retubed)
i wasnt loving the amp the day i got it and in fact this was my second RV50 giving the amp another chance. this time i gave it a full re tube with overly expensive tubes but hey, that did the trick. the high gain had so much more defination and tone!. the clean was sparkly but retained warmth and some how it takes pedals better too. however i will say that the amp has a tone of its own. not everyone will like it. some may even hate it. gain channel has form nice bluesy tones to massive high gain(subjective). its not a 5150 tight as hell kinda distortion but more of a creamy big ballsy sounding distortion. has a looser bottom end compared to stuff like the mesa or the 5150 but holds it own ground with its amazing tone and style of aggression. an eq does much difference as well, like it does many other gain amps. its open sounding and very similar to the bogner XTC to my memory. of course again thats my opinion. flaw however is its noisy as hell!. but trying to get that taken care of now

Durability: 6
this is where it loses points. this amp has died on me, a mere 2 months since i got it almost new. blew a couple of fuses and stuff. in return, i learnt quite a bit bout the amp from the guy i brought it to (disclose of name as he's not ready to go commercial). recommended me a couple of tubes and viola, the orange rockerverb at its absolute best. just dont feel safe gigging and recording without a back up but itll do for now.

Overall: 8
i like this amp very much. wish it had 3 channels but my seventheaven does the job for an extra channel. very similar sounding to the channel b of the amp actually. its an acquired taste but i have fallen in love with the amp. it would have been great if such a pricey amp came with better tubes ad better durability with less noise. but right now thats a sacrifice i have made and no regrets on my part.

as for you shred, well... id meet you personally anytime. you stay so very close to me. id even drive down to you. but take a step back everytime you reply. i mean this with no hostility. you come off as arrogant and rude and no one especially not myself, should have to sit back and accept it. if you want to make an issue out of this, im more than willing, but before extreme steps have to be taken, im simply requesting you to take a step back. these reviews and stuff are for fun, and for the knowledge of others who have not had the chance of these amps. i consider myself lucky and just want to share with my peers. simple gear talk. so if you want perfection i am not offering that. maybe you could put a review on your gries? or have you tried anything else? put down a review dude its all in good fun.

Hey Pedal-itis, really appreciate ur reviews and wanna kick ur ass for being able to try so many cool amps LOL. But i think its better if u can do it in the reviews section with individual threads for the amps, cuz it can get abit messy reading through 20 pages to find for the reviews.

way to go

Hey pedalitis bro, could u review the orange ad30 or rocker 30? I'm currenly looking into some low wattage tube amp for bedroom usage. Tried the Tiny terror and I think it kicked ass but do not have any idea whether the overdrive voicing is similar to the 30 watts amp orange has on offer. Thanks for the effort for sharing the info.

Cheers

i will try to put up reviews asap bro. any one who has tried ANy amp just put down a review and share the knowledge with all of us man

weiht: bro. theres a search function on top of each thread. type out the name of the amp you are looking for man. then viola. there you go. unless no ones reviewed it yet.

That orange looks really delicious btw.... squeeze it into orange juice yeah!

Still no reviews from anyone who's played a Trainwreck yet? I'm hoping that someone has played the real thing....not the tons of clones out there and a certain pedal with a train on it....heh heh.

nice thread, been considering an Orange for a while. kudos to TS

anyway, i feel that your reviews offer some degree of insight but they could be better. felt that shredcow wasn't being arrogant or rude just straightforward.. don't understand the hostility too, but well, leave it out of the thread?

All i can say about this 2 amps - AMAZING......!!!!!!!!!!!!! Worth every dollar spend on them.....thats what i feel..Dont Know bout u guys...

Please take it easy on the reviewers. If we become demanding on the scope and depth on the reviews, we could be scaring some other people from posting theirs. Let different people who have experience chip in about different aspects of the amp yeah?

Keep the reviews coming. Erm... anybody tried Matchless Chief and Two Rocks? Haven't seen them in Singapore but I saw some of the Blues greats (ie. John Mayer) using those rare stuff. Looked very cool. How to bring them in?

Btw, don't we have already have specialised sections in this forum for reviews of guitar gear? I am referring to those sections where subversion usually posts.

+1 to all the JC discussion above and also

YOU DON'T WANNA JC120 IN YOUR BEDROOM!!!!

volume at 0.5 max?

hehe i've got a jc120 in my bedroom, vol at 2 on low input. sound spectacular, albeit the stares from neighbours. muahha

One dropped in for repairs last week and i believe there are a few here in Sincity.
I find em doin that 'dumble' thing really well with it's early breakup, wooly and nice pick sensitive and compression.

Thats all ...anymore gain ...its noise and nasty.
Nice clean and appealing construction on the outside.
On the inside ...point to point ..not so clean job...but hey it's 'hand made' ...c/w huge ass output transformer...:)

hey grain, im more interested to know more abt ur two cabs!!! Wat speakers, did u try the vht head with the mesa cab and vice versa???

My JC 60 is too loud at 2 , I think JC 120 will be a bit too much in your bedroom. Probably better for outdoor gigs.

Cleans- 10/10
Reverb- 9/10 it doesn't really coat your tone, it enhances it
Chorus- 10/10 Beautiful
Mojo- 9.58/10
Distortion- 2/10 , fuzzy sounding , definitely not for high gain applications no matter how much you tweak.

Holy shitttttt!!! Nice man.. That is some expensive mojo right there!

And regarding the JC, the drives suck but at least they take pedals REALLY well!

JC60 to JC120...no diff in loudness.
Double Wattage does not = double volume.

Relative to the standard amp power of 50 watts:
50 mW - thousandfold decrease in power (1/8 as loud) 3 orders of magnitude 0.5 W - hundredfold decrease in power (1/4 as loud) 2 orders of magnitude 5 W - tenfold decrease in power (1/2 as loud) 1 order of magnitude 15 W - threefold decrease in power (about 2/3 as loud) 50 W - unity 100 W - twofold increase in power (maybe 25% louder) 500 W - tenfold increase in power (twice as loud)
1/8 the volume of a 50 watt amp sounds like the level I want to hear. Everyone can agree, 1/8 the volume would be nice. But let's look at the amazing decrease of power that will give this result. A 1/8 decrease in volume amounts to 3 orders of magnitude of power, yielding just 50 mW -- a *thousandfold decrease* in power. *Three* orders of magnitude! A 50 watt amp is *a thousand times too powerful*.
X% louder = 2^log10(P2/P1) * 100%

totally agree.....remember using the jc120 at my band's deafcon gig and they really kicked ass!

Its a bit on the bright side though...although at least it doesnt impose its own signature character on your sound like most other amps do....
