Could all these hype and hoohaa concerning 2012 be some sort of publicity or marketing efforts leading to the movie premier? All these could be some sort of viral marketing, similar to those of The Dark Knight or District 9, to capture audiences' attention.

from my point of view, i feel that we are the terrorist of this planet we call earth. we upest every FUC*ing eco-system in this world for our survival and benefit and karma will one day come and scre* the shit out of us. Be it 2012 or anytime, as long as we don't change what we are doing, it will come sooner or later.

believe this or not, humans are just so smart and so good at making use of everything around us to our benefit(you know it don't you?). The tragedy of the commons, sad but true.

lets just hope that when judgement day comes, we already tried our best to prevent it.

i don't think we can ever change because of how our industries are made up off, how we are taught and how the big players in this world directs everything.I hope that there is hope, but in my most honest opinion; "To save this earth, all of us should die"

My hypothesis is that: It could be the end (true), but maybe due to humans' actions, not due to global warming.

It was mentioned that electronics will malfunction and the whole World's virtual system goes chaotic. Some humans make full use of these to pull off big scams and stuffs - which may results in theft, forgery, etc..

For example when the ATM goes dead, robbers just try to loot all the cash - I mean, who wouldn't do it right? CCTV will not work during the break, the bank wouldn't be able to stop from the many looters and police can't contain the situation. Eventually both side will clash, riots happens, the whole economy and governance system would crumble, this even made more possible since this geophysical activity will last for months or even years.

Many countries will suffer, some worse than the other - this would then trigger off as an opportunity for countries striving for World recognition (Iran or North Korea perhaps?) to wage war with USA or Israel. Every countries will want to settle their own disputes too. And of course leads to World War III, eventually.


This whole thing might be too far-fetched or rather too way off to sound like a hypothesis, but its a simple chain reaction really, like a domino effect - this however, triggering an even worse event each time.

You sir, are a product of mass brainwashing by tree hugging nature lovers. Yet you sit there and type on appliances and use things that were created by upsetting the eco-system in the very first place.

God! I love the irony in this place!

There are already changes being made, and these things cannot be made overnight. Consumers are already moving towards green efforts for appliances and even cars. Americans are beginning to adopt, if somewhat at a niche level" vegetable oil fuled cars. The Terminator himself is already using a vegetable oil equipped Hummer.

There will always be that group of people who will complain to no end about how we're killing the earth, and even when change comes, they're too set in their dogmatic ways to even see it.

Anyways back to topic.

I think 2012 is going to come and go. A telecommunications disruption might happen, and I believe that did happen in the not too distant past before. I relember a couple of years back, we had mobile network disruption because of sun spots, and that sort of lasted a day or sso. In this case, maybe it'll be so severe that it affects on a longer term?

What I'm puzzled about is how come the mayans marked out 2012, as did the aztecs AND the egyptians. What is it about that year that's going to happen?

2012 is a FALSE alarm.

There have been a lot scientific studies that show that sunspot activity is WEAKER for Solar cycle 24 : 2008 -2013 , compared to solar cycle 23 : 1996 - 2008.

this whole end of the word thing is heavily subjected confirmatory bias. People happily interpret ambiguous events to fit the idea of the end of the world..

Seriously nothing that is gonna happen in 2012 can be described as THE END OF THE WORLD.Its predicted that the earth will start to have some changes.The most significant which is the change of North and South Poles.

About the Sun rays bursting onto the Earth's atmosphere.This is likely to happen.How bad is it gonna affect us?The worse they could predict is that all the transformers will be wiped out or destroyed in such a way.

Well, the last solar flare that hit Canada had left them in the dark for many hours, if not days. (i cant remember the time or date it happened, you can google that and read up on it).

So based on research if this flare is gonna be many hundred times stronger, then we can easily say that alot of power grids, satelites, etc will be out. Power grids out meaning we're gonna be in the 'dark' for awhile...some say months, others predict years, satelites outages means that we can throw our mobile/cell phones away.

Because solar flares not only release heat, they also emit a very strong electro-magnetic kinda wave/energy, which could then disrupt the earth's current field and anything eletronic around or on the earth. And going even more extreme, the earth might even spin out of its current axis/rotation which will cause alot more catastrophic natural disasters.... which might then mean an end to a majority of lifeform.

Well, alll the above is IF the solar flare is gonna happen, and IF it is strong enough to disrupt the field of the earth.

Just my 2cents... check out Discovery channel i think, they've got lots of documentries on this topic lately.
