$2000

Washing bums... Oh dear.

The made-in-China Deans are quite affordable, actually. Plenty leftover for a nice tube amplifier. But of course as with the case with all MIC guitars, pick a good piece. Don't order in because there's a chance you'll receive a lemon.

Nothing against Chinese factories, but only a few brands can boast a good reputation with their MIC guitars. The others have to down their prices and brand them as low-end. Like Ibanez Gios. Plenty of lemons, gotta find a good piece.

But hell, with $2K you can easily get an MIJ guitar, and MIJs are at least around the same level as MIAs for some manufacturers. I hear plenty of stories of MIJ strats being more likable over their MIA counterparts.

Jackson if the TS is gonna be using a tremolo... Usually only the lower-end Jacksons carry hardtail bridges. But Jacksons are very comfortable guitars, very nice to play. But I'd say they're pretty much meant for metal and nothing else...

My greatest advice is to try the guitar that suits you best..
I've been hunting for the perfect axe lately, with a similar budget..

I narrowed down to a few choices:
Fender HMT Tele (discontinued)
Had the twang, but the tone is fatter and not as 'thin' as other Teles (its just my view of Teles in general).. Great when distorted (especially overdriven sounds, not fuzz) and very punchy cleans..

Gibson SG Standard 3-single coil (Guitar of the Week)
Gibson vibe, with a unique tone.. No single coil twang tones, no LP Gibby creamy, no SG crunch, but a nice unique sound to it; a Gibson sound.. 6-way rotary pickup selector offers a VERY versatile setup..

Epiphone Casino (Ltd Edition, MIK with Bigsby)
The P-90 pickups here didn't provide great cleans, but the overdriven sound is creamy to the max! But the body was too large and was poking me in the stomach, similar to the Xiphos' problem!

At the end of the day, after much testing (hours after hours, trust me, it spanned over SEVERAL days), I went to Hub's house to try his Gibbie.. Upon playing ONE overdriven note, I knew this guitar was gonna be mine..

The point I'm trying to make is, it will strike once you hear what you want.. The SG wasn't in perfect condition, but the tone more than made up for it.. Buy it for the sound, not the brand or resale value or anything.. I tried a Stagg Tele recently, which is worth 200+.. And trust me, the sound beats plenty of middle price range axes.. Didn't feel like a Fender, but hell! Sounds like a good tele to me!

And one last thing.. The amp is the most important part of the equation.. No point buying a 2000 dollar guitar and plug it into a 100 dollar amp, but plug a 100 dollar guitar into a 2000 dollar amp, you'll hear all the differences you need!

Currently Staggs are pretty cheap, but they look so good! From what I've heard, the prices are not going to last for long. Stagg is like the Yamaha of Europe, apparently, and once Stagg makes a foothold here in the East, prices are going to jump a fair bit. At least as costly as Yamahas, or perhaps more.

Amazing specs, though. I found a really nice axe with a red quilted top and that Jackson Kelly inspired shape, looked awesome! Alder body, maple neck and rosewood fretboard, all for 390+... Prices are for now though...

Yeah, like Godspeed64 said, get a guitar that fits you. You'll know after playing a while whether you like the guitar or dislike it. I used to like the Ibanez Iceman shape, but after playing it at Swee Lee (kudos to the friendly service!) I decided I didn't like it. So yeah, recommendations are good, but of course try these recommendations out and decide for yourself which one fits you best.

At that budget, you can afford a lot of professional quality guitars.

I did mention that go for the best sound, and its true, Stagg guitars are value-for-money guitars..
And from what I've heard, so are Timbre and Swing guitars, which are considered 'undervalued'..

For metal, I can only mention a few guitars.
Most ESPs, especially the Eclipse..
Most Ibanez RGs, as well as the Xiphos..
Most Jacksons..

I ain't that sure.. EMG actives sound really superb driven.. But, they sound too generic.. In the sense that no matter what guitars it is placed into, it will sound almost identical.. It overpowers the tone from your guitar's wood, etc..
And be sure to invest in either a good amp (with at least larger speaker size), or pedals?

I used to use Vintage PAF pickups (low output humbuckers), into a Randall amp, using the in-built distortion or a Metal Muff to get my metal sound.. I was satisfied enough with it!

donate to nkf or give to renci hospital.

hahaha, this i would not tell him. he would twist my head from my neck, shaft a gold tap up my ars and hang me at the top of westin stamford!
