12 string baritone USACG Work In Progress

shreddy,
Damn right they're an excellent company. I almost didn't get to order this setup but Tommy went all the way to piece this 12 string baritone neck together without an upcharge.

Other companies would go, "Sorry its not in our regular programme. Any custom work like this will cost you $XXXXXX." I'm a customer for life.

subversion,
heh heh.... you got it! Robin oh Robin....

62jaguar,
lets hope i don't fuk it up with my finishing. 8O

edder
yeah..finish would be the tricky part...

BTW, what is the scale once this is finished?sori, i'm sure how long is a baritone scale..

it should be a 28 5/8". baritone scales differ from one manufacturer to the other.

this 28 5/8" if i remember correctly is just another extension of the regular 25 1/2"

How are you going to finish the body edder?

I know you can oil a body yourself even without pior experience.

So I shall say... OIL THE DAMN THING!!!

yup that is exactly what I'm gonna do. Oil the bugger but with Danish Oil aka linseed oil with additives. Will probably do a final wax coating too.

I'm still contemplating whether to dye the body OR not. Gotta sit on it for a day or two. Maybe a light amber would be quite classic with the black pickguard.

After a few months of emailing! they've just confirmed my order today and sent me the final order form! wahaha! can't wait can't wait.

shred, i does look a hell lot nicer after you oiled it! ed! OIL IT! i think dying the body's a great idea eh.....but amber seems a bit off. hmm..maybe its just me....but hell its your guitar! so you know what you gota do to make ya love it more!

p.s. it took a few months not cos they're slow....but cos it took me that long to plan. so the emails went really slow. was very happy with their service and patience. warmoth didn't have that so won't be getting my parts from them like i initially intended to.

Edder/Shredcow > where do you buy linseed oil from ah?

I've heard of this formula to make your own wax paste...
1/3 Linseed oil, 1/3 Turpentine, 1/3 Beeswax (or whatever wax)

Anyone tried that before? They say that you can also apply this without sealing with oil first.

shreddy bought his Truoil from some dodgy ebay source!

I get mine from the local upmarket DIY shops like Self Fix, Vin Mart etc. Its called Danish Oil by Colron. They have Teak oil too but that is for a more KILAT finish. Danish Oil is more low sheen.

I'm planning now to use Shellac as a base coat and also to give it an amber'ish hue followed by Danish Oil and then Beeswax.

Edder> You going to cut your own shellac mixture or do you use the pre-mixed ones? Have you considered using caranuba instead of beeswax? That would make for one really glossy wax finish :)

BTW, the DIY shop at Vivo sells poly in an aerosol can if you were considering a poly finish. I'm really intrigued by the KTM waterbased finishes at LMII as well.

I'm taking my chances with the regular hardwareshop premix. if it doesn't work out then I'll have to clean up the whole mess with alcohol. Keeping my fingers crossed here.

I've already bought the beeswax sooo.... nope... not gonna try other wax. Who knows I won't like that beeswax kilat look! Then back to square one.

I'm done with aerosols. IMHO, I've never gotten em to stay smooth and kilat kilat for long even though it looked good and shiny at that point. 3-4 years down the road my refinished tele had those hairline cracks all over the place. But I was using Nippon Pylox lah...

Dodgy ebay seller indeed! The seller shipped me 4 x bottles of tru oil. I just used tru oil all the way on my guitar. And that's for the mahogany body and maple top... all just plain plain wood from the get go.

heh... the whole project was left aside for other important things cos my vacuum cleaner broke down. Now what has the vacuum cleaner gotta do with guitars? Well this...

I'd need to reroute the hole slightly to fit this Neutrik locking socket into it and routing using a Dremel creates TONS of fine dust. I do not like it nor does the missus. I'd normally used a vacuum cleaner to suck out the dust while I route... and its broken. knnbcb.....
