December! Singing Competition

Apparently nobody from the academy wants to enlighten us on what's going on. They probably don't want to bother with us, especially when their event is over. I wonder if their sponsors can give us some answers.

Hi,

We apologise for the late reply as we do not visit the SOFT forums frequently, so we were not informed of the queries posted to this site.

In any case, I believe the queries that Geraldine has raised has been addressed. If any of you have any more queries, you can send your queries to our Marketing Director at qinny@gefang.com.sg.

Thank you.

Regards,
Gefang Music Academy

Hi All,

Just a clarification note, it was mentioned during the Auditions that only shortlisted participants would be notified if they got into the next round. However, due to the lack of eligible participants for the Competition, none of the auditionees were selected and Gefang Music Academy had to annul our 'Nostalgia' Singing Competition.

The prizes from the sponsors were then re-negotiated to be distributed to the audience who participated in our games during our show.

We would like to sincerely apologise as the clarification mail to all participants was retained in our server and not disseminated, therefore causing the misunderstanding. I believe that all participants will be receiving the clarification mail soon.

We genuinely appreciate the effort that all participants have put into the application and the time and trouble spent at the Auditions. We will be retaining all participants' application and contact details, and will update you on our future events or if there are any other suitable opportunities that may arise.

Gefang Music Academy sincerely apologises for the misunderstanding that arose due to our team's negligence, but would like to thank all participating musicians for the strong support given to us.

Your kind understanding is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Regards,
Gefang Music Academy

I've got an email reply from Zhiyang -- after my 3rd email attempt -- answering my queries. Hopefully he'll answer your queries here too, Musicsane.

Hi Chiffon,

Thank you for battling this out together.

“However, due to the lack of eligible participants for the Competition, none of the auditionees were selected" -

My son has never been out of any contest in first round. Infact, having a spot in Final has always been his forte let alone winning.
And the fact that he was tipped by many in the industry when doing demos to be the one to look out for.
So I don't buy the reasons as above. To me, is not being a star or so but the lame reason given & the capability of the organiser.

Whatever the reasons given. We have to look into the creditibilty of the organiser in future if we were to join any contest.

I totally agree with your last sentence :)
I believe that I am on the same boat as your son, Musicsane. I find myself being "ineligible", or not good enough, for the small-scaled competitions that I have entered recently, when I usually make my way to the finals, or even emerge as the top 3. These competitions have left me disappointed. Not because I did not fare well or advance far enough in the competition, but the credibility, biasness and organisation/planning of the competition was a big issue. An example was the Youthbox competition held at Heeren. (Sigh).

I liked to participate in smaller-scale competitions as I believe they are less biased and commercial, compared to the TV reality shows with media-driven agenda. However, after these episodes I might just lose heart and faith in smaller-scale competitions.

Nope I didn't. Did your son go for it? Hahaha...may I know why the curiosity to know my age? :)

Oic..thought u would hv joined. Yes.. he is in the semi this Sat in Kovan.
Hmm...gd question!! Just curious cos I m actually doing music production. Would need different singers to do demo at times.

ar ga ar ga

i have read a few lines.. for what i think if is competition set as competition, if is audition for some events then so be it. it kinda strange if you put 2 together.. too bad i over age limit cant check it out what happen~~ hehe

thoughts

Hi, I'm kinda like new to SOFT but i've been actively participating in a lot of singing competitions and I'm very keen in joining more singing comps to improve.

But from this thread, from what I understand la, correct me if i'm wrong, it seems to me like the competition was cancelled because there was no eligible participants. Then, Musicsane and chiffon77811 are unhappy.

But I thought for competitions, it's the right of the organiser to decide whether the competition should go on what. There's nothing wrong to cancel the competition if there are not enough strong participants for the competition right? I mean if I wasn't selected for the competition, I would think that it's because i'm not good enough lor.

Then I find it very ridiculous that musicsane is flaming the credibility of the organisers of singing competitions. Cos like although your son "was tipped by many in the industry when doing demos to be the one to look out for", if he were "so good" as you describe (by the way, it isn't exactly very impressive either, no offence), he would already be a professional artiste. So it's very presumptuous to assume he would win all sorts of competitions he enters (by the way, did he even join this competition that's in the question? if he didn't why are you complaining?).

I mean, i've also joined a lot of singing competitions and been rejected sometimes, although i've won various smaller scale competitions. I think it's your attitude ba. Maybe both of you should access your individual singing capabilities rather than accusing the organiser of having 'no credibility' or no 'capability' lor. Just my thoughts. I mean if you were super impressive, why would you be turned down. Definitely doesn't make sense!

Sorry for being so lengthy but I just thought of standing up for the organisers cos I was also involved in my school's talentime production before and I know it's damn hard to do such stuff. And getting scolded for unreasonable reasoning is even worse.

Just my two cents worth. :)

Thank you very much for your so called two cents worth.

Would be good if you have read all the mails before making any comments.
The reasons for us to voice out is that we didnt get a proper reply from the organiser.

Can I made noise if my son dun get a proper response from the organiser?? How do you know if he is not complaining??????

We are not saying that it is easy to organise a contest. We barely want to know what is going on. If there was insufficient contestants, be it & just let us know & set our priority right. THE POINT IS ; TO TELL US WHAT IS GOING ON. We will accept the fact if there is insufficient contestants but not keeping us weeks to guess.

I duno how gd is your singing and am no interest to know. I do not know who are you to judge when u know nothing at all.

I do not know what is your intention of roar flaming this again when the chapter is already closed after organiser posted their reply.

Does it do you any gd to start the fire again??

Think before you speak young one.
