Your favourite sticks

currently using Jack DeJohnette signature 5A.
its a wonderful pair of sticks. its longer then e usual u find.

BUT its alittle heavy. so ya. but its good for training e fingers

some people commented that vic firth break easily.. havent had that problem. its the zildjian ones which seem really weak.. anyway i've got a few pairs..

Vic Firth 7A Nylon (Absolute Favourite)
Vic Firth 7A Wood Tip
Vic Firth 5A Nylon
Vic Firth 5A Wood Tip
and some other Vic Firth Fat, Long, Round tipped stick.. logos have all worn off

never had a pair break on me before glad to say. :)

my vater 5a's still going strong after some crazy whacking.... still haven't break any vic firths yet but i broke a vater before...

I haven't broken a Vic firth before but then... I used a Vic Firth American classic Rock pair on a few songs and I didn't play very hard. The grooves in the wood from crashing were soooo thick... Don't think it'll last a whole gig in my opinion.

So yeah that's why I don't use Vic Firths. I use Vaters exclusively because they're really tough as nails.

Oh haha maybe I just hit way too hard but then my Vaters held up much better... I feel more free with Vaters because I don't have to worry about them breaking while I'm performing.

But I can't imagine using Aheads though :? they're too 'high-tech' for me.

i used to be this really hard hitter... by 2002 i had developed the "art of the hard"

i was so loud, i hit a rim shot one jam and my guitarist got 2 weeks mc from having eardrum broken (liquid started oozing from his ear)

also, i broke 2 drumsticks per 2 hour jam on average. mostly hickory. and all kinds of brands - vater fusions, zildjian 2bs, pro marks, u name it.

it got to the point, i wasn't sure if i was loud and at a drum exchange a drummer (i think ahpek) commented ,"bro thats not loud... thats f**king loud!!!"

to make things worse, i bought this 14inch aluminium snare wif the god mofo frigging loud crack, it made some of my band musos have a "2nd heart beat" wif every crack.

i woke up one day and realise, this is way beyond the point of no return.

i've learnt since how to be more 'soft' and tone down on my hardness.

i've reached the penultimate in a sense - with a few good hits i know how and when to slice or break a drumstick in two. it comes from knowing ur elbow fulcrum, transferring some power starting from your back muscles, all the way into the stick and let the stick and rim rock each other () .... but its really quite a useless skill (who would wanna waste money??)

but till that end i've put my skill to good use, knowing where and when to crack the stick, i can get a loud hit and have drumstick pretty lasting, also a good tone and crack for recording while chipping away the stick as economical as possible.

well thats the story of my drum stick breaking journey... haha....

yup alfie's right.

rimshot rimshot rimshot

practice it to dead. till u can hit a gd rim shot without thinking. every bar u play 2 (excluding some genres like jazz, latin etc.) why wldn't want to play it gd.
loudness doesn't come from strength, it comes from gd technique to the best of my knowledge.

Haha I used to be a hard-hitter but the last time I performed I played softer than I usually do. It gave me better timing and it was easier to do solos and multi crashes. My sticks could 'flow' now so less blisters and more fun. So yeah hitting too hard not only waste your money, but also your technique.

i've got a few pairs as well.

the very first pair i started using was Vic Firth's Peter Erskine ride stick.

moved on to Vic Firth's Steve Gadd signature sticks, then kinda alternated with Vic Firth's Buddy Rich signature sticks for a while.

Now using Promark's Elvin Jones signature sticks. totally love 'em

uhh where do i get los cabos sticks from by the way?

At Music Ensemble, otherwise commonly known as Daisy Rock.

It's at the basement of Paradiz Center, opposite Subway sandwiches.

It's gotta be Promark. I've got Vater Chad Smith, Vic Firth 7A. But once I picked up the Promark Neil Peart Signature and the White Oak versions, I haven stopped playing them already!

Promark! Promark!

I think I must have small hands.

killerbee: oohhh i glanced in the other time while i was walking to musiclab and all i saw were guitars man. ugh. if not i'd have bought a pair or two.

and yeah i think only yamaha brings in promark sticks.
