Your 1st gig

Just curious to find out but how long did it actually take u to play in ur 1st gig after ur band was formed? For me personally, back when I was in poly in 2000, my band played in a poly gig 1-2 months later after the band was formed. Truly an enjoyable experience and tat was followed by another poly gig the following year..but it wasnt as fun as the 1st one IMO.

That was then. I`m of coz in a new line-up now, my band was formed last Nov. My previous drummer left in Jan and a new one came tat same month. Been jamming and writing originals, but it`ll take some time for us to play in our 1st gig cos my bassist hav to undergo op next mth and will be out for at least 6 weeks..but its ok, our band is taking one step at a time..no need to rush.. : )

So lets hear your side of the story : )

First was in secondary school, some silly stupid shit. But a good experience nonetheless!

my 1st gig was back in 2002 at a CC (can't remember which CC) with a quite some crowd, it is a family day event. We played a 1hr slot, but this band i was playing with was formed quite a long time & that wasn't their 1st gig, but it was my 1st gig....

it was fun, the band lead guitar broke 2 guitar strings.... using up his 2nd guitar. Luckliy we were at the end of the set when he broke the 2nd guitar string...

back then everyone's equipment were crappy.... but we do enjoy the moment...

:D :D :D

Back in 1992 when the Earth was young and dinosaurs roamed the land, I started my first serious band with my cousin and a friend and then another guy came on board. We played our first gig in early 1993 at the legendary but now sadly defuct WTC amphitheater. I guess it was roughly a year until we played that first gig. In that time period, I remember we just practice constantly. We played a whole lot of Metallica covers in that gig, and don't mind me blowing my own horn -- we kicked serious assage!

very first outdoor performance was at WTC Amphitheatre in a band competition back in 1996 I think. Jeff Music Studios Band Competition. Up against 69, Candle..Manifest was also there lah. Borhan won the Best Vox.

sec.2 1984 - still remember the jitters hehe - 1st gig was helping out my friends at their school gig - neighbouring school band guitarist fractured his arm, 2 days before their hari raya show. spent the next whole afternoon/evening in their school practising their stuff. thankfully familiar. 'scorpions - always somewhere, sweet charity - musibah and judas priest - breaking the law'. we did okay :D

Twas @ Temasek Polytechnic for a Valentine's Day performance... lemme see... 2001 I think. I played acoustic (only had an acoustic then) along with a Sax, 3 vocalists, bass, keys and drummer. Was really cool... esp when the Sax totally forgot to solo, I mean, he was happily smiling around while the rest of the band stared at him... I tried to cover up then. Hahaha... that was horrid!

Most interestingly, I never played a gig again till I got to NS @ 2004, and played for some BMTC Commander Farewell dinner.

in secondary school.
but we were just playing music for fun.
and since i was the only girl in the band, it's kinda saddening because
the other girls would go GOO GOO GAA GAA over the lead guitarist & guitarist & drummer whilst i just stood in one corner playing the 4 strings.
lalalalla
and we play for FREE.. no complains. haha

Last year, sometime in may for a school's mini LT concert. Practiced for about 3 months back then, when most of my band was newbies (only lead guitarist had some experience I think). 2 gigs later, well, all I can say is... the first one was pretty sloppy haha. Good experience though.

hmm band formed 21st november 04, got the first gig on 21st dec 04. Thanks to Keith of Lee Kwong Seng. It was called the 'First Step' gig.

I think it depends on which gig you perform. If you perform in a poly gig, the chances of you getting the attention of other gig organisers would be lesser compared to gigs held in the usual venue, eg. substation. so the chances of you getting the next gigs would be lesser than the latter.
