yamaha ex7 is on sale at cash converters bedok.
price is $749, condition looks good, i cant see any scratches, screen still covered with translucent plastic.

i see from the show yr racks thread that some old birds still have the yamaha ex7..to me it looks abit like..erm...a motif prototype..? i mean the casing and design lar...

any comment s bout this synth,>? if u own one, or intend to disown one...why.?

asking becos it seems to be quite a hell of a synth considering its age,,..quite surprised to see one in good condition at cash converters

It's a synthesis and wavetable workstation.

I own a Yamaha EX7 then later a EX5R.

The setback about it is the notes biting problem
when you use the built-in sequencer and at one time
you can only load one song from the floppy.
At times, the Yamaha EX7 doesn't have enough polyphony
to support a song with Performance patch.

Otherwise use it for gig and a synth, it's pretty good.

The EX5r is better off but compare to the sounds nowadays
with Motif ES and Roland FantomX, sure it's far behind.

i use an EX5, which is a 76-key version with the additional AN synthesis which the EX7 doesn't have. i've thought of upgrading to a motif but i felt that the sounds in the EX are still very usable. not to mention, with the 6 knobs, 2 mod wheels and ribbon strip, it makes a better controller than the motif. 749 is a very reasonable price, IMO.

There's something about the EX5/7 touch which makes me squirm slightly. Perhaps I'm spoiled by Roland's unweighted keys. The EX5/7's key-bed feels doesn't have the padded feel.

yup, Ian's comment is correct. The EX5/7 still usable.

EX5 has 128 polyphony and additional AN component and VL synthesis
Ex7 only half 64 note polyphony. The AWM wavtetable are good enough
for basic performance.

the EX series was the top-of-the-line yamaha synth before the motif? think that was about 5 years ago. Think its still enuff synth power for any casual user. But some comments were made about its 'unfriendly' interface i think.
