Yamaha Asian Beat heats..the aftermath...

Just got back from the heats and I`m certaintly nt in a happy mood... :x

It goes like this...

When it was time for my band to go on stage and do all the necessary setup, i noticed why my guitar amp sound was so soft, I told the roadie there abt it and he said it was normal..I was like huh...why is it so damn soft?! When my other guitarist played a note, I could hardly hear his playing...so I asked the roadie once again why is it so soft, and he said that its connected to the PA monitors facing the audience...I can only hear my bassist, drummer and vocalist sounds..

I knew it was all downhill the moment I played my 1st chord, it was so soft that I couldnt hear myself playing and neither could my other guitarist..cos of this, we couldnt keep in time and I had to pick so hard to increase the volume..our whole playing was screwed up!!

After our song, me and my guitarist complained to the judges as to why the sound system was so soft and that the roadies didnt do anything abt it..they said this was the normal setup for every performance and it did nt matter if they could hear us playing but most imptly is how we do on stage...and they told us tat the results will be out tonite..

My band didnt have tat feeling of enjoyment on playing on stage just now cos of the sound system...and it will be a miracle if we get thru the heats.....

sorry but needed to rant...

This was the 1st time I`ve been performing in 4 yrs. My last 2 gigs were in poly and there was no problems with the sound system at the time...today was an embarassment...

One more thing, other bands`sound system were fine..we could hear everything but ours were not!! How could this have happened?!

things on stage probably sound different than what they are offstage. probably the PA projected it away from the stage so that if you're on the stage you probably won't be able to hear it as well as everyone offstage.

You'll understand when you perform more often la. Some places have horrid stage sound, others just sound better without doing much. The other bands were probably more comfortable with the surroundings.

yea, thats probably so, because at sch of rock auditions, i could hardly hear myself too...even though i was standing right in front of the monitor amp. and because i couldnt hear myself nor my rhythm guitarist, i wouldnt be surprised if we went off beat...plus i am a player who relies on hearing myself to play the next note...i tend to forget how to play my solos unless i can hear myself. Due to that problem, we couldnt achieve that energy level as a band which we always had in the studio, thus, our performance certainly looked like it lacked energy. I guess the best way to rectify this is to make sure you turn the monitor amp lloud enough for you and your band to hear. Then it would sound more like in the studio, and the performance can proceed as you wanted it to. :?

hahaha... had the same problem michaelangelo. lolx.

I dunno, I think they shouldn't be using PA systems though. Should go pure amp stacks or something. Or the speakers should be behind the performers so we can hear it too. Cannot juz crank up the volume cos if not it'll be MUCH louder to the audience than it is to you and you're going to kill them with blasting their ears. Not only that, go louder ur gain will be more obvious I think will sound messier.

Yeah amp stacks are the best...more shiok hehe...can feel the electricity and make u enjoy the music..oh well, whats done is done...now waiting for result...all the best to me and my band....

all the best man...i nv really perform before...so i dun really know how it feels...but whats done is done...i wish u and ur band good luck

did you do the offspring cover, coz seriously the guy with the ESP (looks like kirks) was so quiet, the song sounded wrong becuase it was missing half of it!

I only stayed for the first few bands though.

i personally thought they should have let us at least have a 1-2 minute soundcheck at least. like as a band. they didnt let us! grr. at least i cld hear my guitarist and bassist when we played. anyway results came out at 10pm.

well, as expected, we did not make it thru the heats but we plan to record our song and maybe a few originals..hoping to get gigs too..we`ll be back :)

bro...listen to drums man....
this things do happen...

as a matter of fact if its a small stage ...you dont need monitor..
