Workhorse amps

anyone tried the workhorse amps by visual sound at g77? wanna give comments? I'm thinking of getting a tube amp and am not sure whether that's a cost effective solution.

That hubcap look is horrid. Wonder if it really helps with the sound dispersion. Got to go down and try it out for myself I guess.

Though the hubcap doesn't look appealing but it worked like a charm. It really dispersed the sound. I tried listening from different locations and it sounds pretty uniform.

As for the tone, the clean tone is pretty fat (even when bass is set at zero) thus it's not the brightest of amps. As result, it's very smooth. I tried it with a modded MT2 and it sounds ok. Nothing to shout about. But for the price, I think it's a pretty good deal for a tube amp.

Yup heard one of the g77 staff (I think) testing out a schecter on that amp. It has a very balanced tone - nothing jumps out at you. Hence I think it suits its workhorse name very well for it's an amp that's meant to provide a basic tone shaped by your pedals.

i went and tried it out today. wasn't impressed by it. there was a lack of character but i think it was meant to be that way i guess for a so called more neutral sound.

yeah, i tried it too, and it was ok. Not too bad, but not astounding.

The good thing about the amp is that it has many features. including a direct line out, 9V dc out and easy tube biasing.

Anyone has any recommendations for a small tube amp for home practice/recording? Budget $1k. I play blues mostly, so looking for a really responsive tube amp.

pro junior, great for home use, although u might wanna swap out the stock speakers for better ones.

Just that speakers are difficult to come by.

But with a budget of 1k, u can order in some weber/celestion/eminence or jensen to fit into the budget.

the pro junior will set you back about 700, with a speaker change you will come to around 850, delivery included.

Try calling sweelee, they have it, but they sell out fast. Last time i checked... its around $700.

If they do not have it, you can pay 30% of the price, they will add it into their next shipment and when it arrives you just pay the other 70%.

Try a tweed deluxe clone from ceriatone. USD374 for the built chassis. Add in a cab and speakers and it could be around sgd1k.

hmmm... ceriatone looks like an interesting way to get an amp? How do you actually go about fixing everything together, and have you tried their products before?

You can order am amp that is already built. Read somewhere they can make the cabs as well. Best to contact them. They seem quite customer oriented.

Havnt got the space for so many amps. But lots of people on thegearpage have good experience with ceriatone.
