if your job drains ur life away, i suggest you find another job that u love doing. i worked at fast food restaurants before and to me its hell. I feel like it's a waste of time serving customers and getting scoldings for minor things by ur manager and fellow collegues. They even pay u as low as 3 bucks an hour.Pathetic.

as for me, i would Love to work as a full time musician and play live everyday at any gigs in singapore..i dun care if they pay me only 3 bucks an hour..at least it's better than getting scoldings for nothing. At least i get to do sumthing i love doing..[=

Don't work for money bro, make the money work for you. Easier said than done. But if done right, it'll take you places.

My 2c.

And I'm still a studen as of now.

Yup. One of the saddest things in life is waking up every day dreading the work lay that lays ahead of you.

Yup, I had that feeling everytime when I was still employed..now that I'm not, I have that sad feeling of not going to work everyday..what a weird life..

the never ending cycle of wake up->work->sleep.

or for students, wake up->school->sleep.
well at least being a student is so much fun.
god, take me back when im 18 dammit!!

When I was in sec sch, I used to dread waking up to school every day and when I was working, I wish I was back in sec sch..:(

I wonder if working life in Singapore is indeed stressful..working our socks off, having to go thru dumb office politics, working OT and coming home late just to support urself and ur family in the long run.

first dwell on this sentence..

"you only have one life to live."

most people don't understand what it really means.

i love working and working for money!

And that doesnt mean i cant do anything that i like outside of working, finding the time for it and sacrificing other activities just to do the things i like.

with the money from working, at least i can indulge in things i wanna

imho, it aint about the hole we are in, but how we managed ourself in the hole, makng changes to adapt and overcome. Thats just part of the fun..

Depends. I'm currently contemplating extending my ORD date for 6 months till uni starts. It pays well, I'm in familiar territory, and I'm left with a few key events before the extended ORD date. Plus, I've got 4 more CQs under me to do my bidding muahahhaah

Well, depends on what sort of job you want. Some ppl sign on with army because of the money. Some rather work at various places because of hours, people, etc. Depends on what about the job that attracts you and keeps you motivated. That is the most important thing.

I wanna be an entrepreneur.Make the money work for me.At least i dont have to dread on the things that Singapore are really proud of,having to work 8 to 5 EVERYDAY!

In Singapore, there is only percieved freedom. Well, I am currently a student. But I am sort of "inactively" employed in 2 jobs. And still applying for better part-time jobs.

What do students do in their holiday? Most choose to work, out of different reasons, but they still are willing to give their holidays to do it. Cuz in our lives...honestly, there is nothing much that can take up THAT much time. So that you can crave for other activites. And when we get to fulfill those other activities, they lose meaning and we get bored. That's the "freedom" of life. Hahaha, it is an endless cycle.

But I still wanna have a go earning money as an artist. XD Drama, music, art...kinda like the highlife.

This one is kind of tricky.

I believe very firmly that career wise, one should do something he likes. Letting the money being the secondary motivation.

But then again, you cannot live without money. Only those who have money, will say that money is not important.

However, it is awful to do something that you dread and do not enjoy. Maybe it pays wells, but you are not finding it fulfilling.
So these people usually indulge themselves with retail therapy, as compensation.

I guess at the end of the day, you need to strike a balance and be realistic.

For me, I chose to do something that I like in University, even though my grades can get me into another faculty that is much more, 'prestigious', 'normal' and would ensure me a 'higher' salary in a more 'stable' sector. And now, I am enjoying every single day in school.

I'm a full time vocal coach, I teach primary school kids in the day and private students from noon onwards. And I love it! The pay is very little compared to what I can earn if I worked in a marketing environment (where my academic qualifications are at). And if God willing, I want to be a missionary some day too!

The process to getting where I am now was very tough though, I had to fight very hard for my beliefs and ideals. And till now, some people in the family are still not happy with what I'm doing and the amount of money I bring to the table. The elders that I talk to always dismiss my work as something that has no value, and many have the impression that I'm just trying to live an easy life (because it SEEMS easy, and my hours are flexible).

It's the cruelty of a degree, results, material wealth, and merit-driven country and society. But even with the downsides, I still love what I do.

Working for money is pointless, there is no true satisfaction to be had from it. Find your purpose in life, and live it, even though everyone else wants to pull you into the 'flow'.
