well ive downgraded from vista to xp.
the drivers cant be downloaded cos my laptop cant identify its own hardware.

any help?

Can your laptop connect to the internet (ie does the LAN driver work)? If not, just use a desktop. Either way, go to the website of your laptop manufacturers. All drivers should be available there for download. You wouldn't be able to do that automatically - you need to download them one at a time.

Otherwise, you should have a CD that came with your laptop with the drivers included.

i can connect to the net.
the problem is that the drivers are for vista, and i downgraded to xp.
also ive misplaced, thats why im in some hot soup man

I've downgraded to XP once and experienced the same problems,i've tried searching the net for the compatible druvers and couldnt find any.So i reinstalled vista and that fixed the problem.

how do you post this online if you cant access the internet?
on a side note, go to pc/laptop can can access the internet, download the driver and save it to a thumbdrive.I think youre unable to detect some of the hardware due to the inf driver (dunno urs what it is,intel, via etc) not installed.
try it !!

firstly thanks for the help.
its a dv4 hp pavillion laptop and i can connect to the net, but other then that all display and sound drivers and even the annoying quickplay button cant work anymore,
the manufacture website only has driver downloads for vista. this is damn annoying man

u mean the laptop was made for vista only? theres no xp drivers? U probably wan to call up hp and ask them for help.

hp can be quite "chao kuan" one, they dont provide the full drivers to some of their laptop if using xp. Mine was the same case as well.

Anyway, hey ladyintears, when i downgraded my hp laptop from vista to xp a while back, i went around searching different forums and manged to find all the drivers from there. There are people who faced the same thing with HP laptop downgraded to xp and manged to find all the drivers. They might post it in some of the forums for others, just need to search around.

Another alternative, theres softwares which will search around the net for drivers and consolidate it for you. One example of this is uniblue driver scanner. Anyway, if you wanna use this kinda software, do a search around, there are other offering which do the same thing as well.

yea thats what im trying to do now, damn irritating with the little and not useful tools hp provides.

another problem is the quickplay keys, its stuck at mute and the xp drivers dont seem to work at all.

worse of all , i was a dumbass and didnt do backup and make a recovery disc of my vista..

in that aspect, HP really suck donkey ballz! I had a hard time trying to search for the xp drivers as well.

when you downgrade to xp, did you format the recovery drive as well? If not, still be able to boot from there to restore to vista. If already format it, then yeah, its a problem now.

oh yeah, whats the exact model of you dv4 laptop(with the model number behind)?

yea hp really sucks. im using a 1104tu dv4 pavillion
unfortunately i deleted the recovery parition as i needed the space.
however, after practically downloading and installing every hp driver related to my issue, ive found a solution to my sound card problems, well kinda.
i have to update the microsoft uaa bus driver for hd audio and skip the steps, which would enable the idt driver to work, but after i reboot, it will forget these settings and ive to do so again.

more or less after downloading a shitload of drivers the lappy is running damn fast with xp, but the drivers such as fingerprint reader quickkeys etc cannot be found but these are not essential.

as for now its working well with intel graphics driver and the stupid idt driver which i have to keep turning on whenever i turn on the computer.

that aside this is one of the most boring and irritating task ive done.

hopefully someone can clarify why the computer forgets the driver settings?

thanks all for your imput

this are your laptop specs i presume? but anyway, technically, you reformatted your laptop,
so, yeh, drivers are deleted as well.
(drivers aren't settings you see, they are files/programs rather)
*edit, i read your post again, the reason why it does that is prolly cause of incorrect drivers, or UAA not installed properly, stuff like that. registry blahblah*
anyway,
i think you'll most prolly have some drivers you can use.

Try,
http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/detect.htm

might fix your graphic problems.

uhmm, you might have some chipset drivers to install as well.
so yeh,
you've got quite alot of things you needa do!

you can call me at 98410103 for help. ;)
