Why do they feel this way?

As far as I know, most of my friends or even school mates are sort of despise or just simply don't care about our very own local scene.

And most of the Singaporeans always compare our music with those oversea music. Sometimes when I show them some of the songs that I wrote. They tend to be like..
"Woah Ryan, you think you're Blink 182 or GreenDay huh? Singapore music got no hopes one lah" or when I show them some of the local bands like Force Vomit, Electrico. Their responses are still negative.

You know, all these comparison and the lack of recognition for our own local music actually one of the factor of why the music scene cant make it big. :/

And I know that most of the US or UK bands also start playing underground before they make it big. But the only differences are that their local community do appreciate but yet Singapore doesn't really show that much support.

I'm just wondering why do Singaporeans feel negative for Singapore music scene. The above is just what I feel so no flamings alright :)

ROCK ON

No offence but thats what i think the Singapore lifestyle hence affecting our mentality.

i think maybe it's cos the local music doesn't really have a unique sound to make it big. for example, thrash metal alone has different types. those from America, Brazil and Germany all sound different in some way or another. meanwhile, local music still just sounds like all those other foreign bands. at least i think partially, this is the reason

I think its the genre that affects people's mentality of the rate of success of bands in Singapore.

Does my sentence make sense?

Alright, I didnt know this sort of matter had brought up before. And I think I know the cause of this like what you guys had mention. This thread can be close now. hahah. I'm looking forward for Mr ShymRaj's Rock Unity planning. (:

Isnt earning money a goal?

You mean they have no life.

To ts its ok to bring up a once mentioned topic. Older threads got buried somewhere.

People always compare the locals to the us/uk bands...some of the comments i heard. " Act ang moh cannot slang like them. CMI " etc.. i wonder..

Precisely, I mean it's like come to a point when Singaporeans play rock songs are equivalent to trying to be like the ang mohs or poser. -_-

In my opinion, this type of thinking is probably the main and biggest obstacles for Singapore music scene

Ryan, it's because you're spending the time asking this same question a thousands times when you could be practicing on your instrument.

superpotato_30: some people earn money just to live and have 3 meals.. while some people do have a goal to earn like million before for e.g., 30?

Yeah, but the thing is I'm not at my house that's why I didn't practice my guitar. LOL

And thus, I thought it's good to discuss why do singaporeans feel this way. And I didn't know that asking this question a thousands times would actually affect on how singaporeans feel towards local music scene.:)
