Why do they feel this way?

I thought the bands that performing are quite good.
I also agree on the point on afraid of set-backs, because personally when i heard my friends says about my music then. I felt kinda of sad/hurt, you know. but after I had start the thread on this, and seen all the replies. I kinda feel that my confidence is back at least. I'm now trying to improve and hopefully someday my friends will have some good feedback about it.

Dude you should honestly, just carry on with your passion for music. Why even bother about what your friends have to comment about on you. They are just jealous that you have so much more potential and talent than they can ever dream of having. Dont let their comments belittle you. Work hard and strive for a better future for local music. I am also in the same boat as you, friends saying that local music can never be as good as those in the western countries, but you know what? If they can do it, so can we. At the end of the day it all comes down to how passionate you are about making it a success. And when you hear people start telling you about how your music has touched their hearts and made an inspiration to them, you can give yourself a pat on your back and say, "Hey, its a good thing i didnt give up before".

you make music for the whole world to listen to. if singapore doesnt accept it, maybe the US or elsewhere will. seriously guys, why do we still bother talking abt singapore?

I would have to disagree with you on the point where you state that we should stop talking about singapore as most singaporeans dun give a crap about other singaporeans. Its because of this mentality that we are constantly failing at areas where the westerners are stronger than us in. How can we not care about our own people. If we dont, who will?

i believe singapore bands like impiety, rudra, ironfist, meza vers, bhelliom, meltg snow... have pave the ways and roads for the metal scene. impiety is a good example who have toured europe non stop and have aquired that international standards and thanks to them everybody on the outer side of singapore are checking out most of our local talents. same goes to rudra who have gone to play in india. ironfist who played in thailand annually, meza vers, bhelliom in taipei, meltg snow in USA. these bands have helped our local scene by indirectly making all their fans aware of singapore scene. we have a scene no matter what race or colour. although some of the listeners are biased towards our scene, we can always get the support from other countries. my advice is ignore the ones who don't listen, because soon they will tend to listen out of curiosity. peace my friends.
