Why are all of you who say radio sucks, still listening to it?

to litford: I have a simple answer. I may be generalising here, and no offence to anyone who does say that radio sucks. I think most of these people are posers, who want to let the world know that they listen to the non-mainstream because it is supposedly cooler. How and why do i say that? i was like that a few years ago:D. heh. But yes those who honestly passionately hate the radio for other better reasons, really no offence to u

The only time i listen to the radio was during my guard duty ,its the only form of 'entertainment' in the Guardroom. Unlike everyone else in the guardroom who has a PSP, i dont.

i don't listen to the radio but i more or less know what songs ae on the charts cos a lot of those ah bengs and mats keep playing them from their handphone everywhere i go

Precisely how I know of Britney's horrible single. You either find it accidentally on youtube, or whichever way Internet pukes out for you

i find radio okay

they dont play what i like. but i dont think thats a reason for me to degrade radio stuff.

i know some here have different views. but even we disagree, we still get along riight :D

ok, im no fan of a radio. have not listen to it for 2 years.
but it doesnt suck but it's just that i feel radio feed you songs, you know?
i rather you go explore your own likes of music than rely on an innocent voicebox.

Quite true. The radio feeds you songs.

I think the thing about some people is, they just don't dig radios because the radio stations don't cater to their tastes. For a radio station to exist, there must be an audience. And especially in Singapore, the audience is really quite small.

And to cater to the audience, there are always various kinds of audience. There is the mainstream and there is also the indies, the metalheads, the punkers, the blues, the jazzy. I believe in this age of commercialism, radio stations will not be so kind to cater to everyone.

For the mainstream, listening to the radio will do fine. But for the minorities, I think we're better off finding our own podcasts or listening to our own mp3s.

Stop lamenting about the quality of radio.

Cos they aren't meant for you in the first place.

That's what I did.

think about it, theres something the radio can do that you cant, the radio is able to generate a random playlist, while adding new songs to the playlist almost everyday, so that people dont get sick of what they listen to.
Try doing that with your mp3 collection.

people listen to the radio for its randomness, not for a specific song, band, or genre. Dissing the radio because they dont play what you want is just plain ignorant.

^^Put in about 80 G worth of music into your MP3. Press shuffle. Voila

Back when I was interning, the office I worked in tuned in to 91.3. I heard the same songs being aired twice/thrice in a day. Now that's not called randomness anymore

There are 2 wonderful non-mainstream, adverts-free local radio stations, namely:

Lush 99.5 FM
Symphony 92.4FM

Great music they have. When I want to listen to soothing music after headbanging to death metal, I will tune in to these stations.

i do listen once in a while if it's really quiet in my room.

keep your friends close,
keep your enemies closer ;P

it's good to know what the general public is listening to, even if you don't personally like it

Radio is not lousy...I occasionally tune in to Gold 90 FM for the latest home n overseas news, followed by the latest football results..I love listening to the morning show, they play all those 60s-80s songs, which I really dig..so many awesome tunes to discover like for instance this week, there was this song tat I was hooked to but never heard b4..I later realized it was by the Partidge Family (Doesn`t somebody want to be wanted?), a band tat I nvr heard of, then I looked it up in Wikepedia n realized it was a 70s TV show about a band made up of a single mother n her children. I asked my mum about it yday n she recalled watching it back then :)

So u see, radio isn't that bad after all. Simple thought about radio: If u dont like it, switch it off :)

Yeah, I remember watching the series too. Think one of the actors was David Cassidy. Handsome dude he is.
