hey drumdead do u have the shelly mane and max roach video?? the one which u said was "melodic" i wanna take a look..

Yeah, I have the video. But it's not a video where both of them play together. It's about great jazz drummers of the 50s and 60s and they showed clips of all the legends.

If u wanna borrow, pls pte msg me. Thanks!

Dennis Chambers, Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta.
Female Drummers:
Carola Grey, Terri Lyne Carrington, Cindy Blackman.

My definition of best drummer is a drummer who can click with hes band well and exactly knowing to hit wad at the exact moment of a song... and as for hes drum solos, its not abt speed and techniques but the emotions the drummer sends out frm him to hes instrument....

My personal fav would be...

Lars Ulrich - Metallica
Joey JOrdison - Slipknot
Yoshiki - X Japan
Drummer frm Grand Funk Railroad
Drummer frm Tower OF Power
( sorrie forgot their names - juz love listenin and watchin him play )
John Bonham - Led Zep
Akira Jimbo
Jojo Mayer
...........................

Man there are juz too many.... but these are the few.....
You guys heard of our local band called B Quartet? Check out the drummer... man he is freakin good.... Hey i think we should change the thread to like Our Local Best Drummers... It'll be interesting and something we musicians can be proud of frm our local pool...

yea that b quartet drummer. Bani Hidir isn;t it?? real amazing.. he could play like mike portnoy after 2 years.. i was like *GASP TO THE MAX*

i do believe it is possible..with patience and determination. and i think among the best drummers in the world.. Bani from B quartet should gain more recognition..

Yeah its Bani Hidir, heard of the song ALPHANUMERIC frm their B Quartets latest EP? Freakin good shit he did on the drums... man that guy won like best drummer for Asian Beat afew years back and that time he was still in Secondary school....

Another great drummer is Imran ( dunno wads hes full name ) but hes the drummer of Enigmatic and Zero Sequence man hes the replica of Mike Portnoy, you should see him drum....

And he is another talented musician, he used to be the guitarist of Zero Sequence and he is also playing bass with Youth Wreck with drummer Bani Hidir.... and he has won like Best Guitarist, Best Bassist and Best Drummer for all the competitions he took....

SUPPORT LOCAL MUSIC & MUSICIANS!!!!

yea man.. bani is oso in my bro's band Solfusion.. freakin good stuff man... i really envy my bro for being such a talented keyboardist and his band...they're all so good..

I think you should rephrase and ask, who is the most influential drummer of our time. There's just no best drummer thing. There will always be someone who'll be faster and with more endurance. What you would want to know is who inspired the most drummers...

IMHO, the most influential drummer would be....

...Steve Gadd.

steve gadd's really influential, but i dunno if he's the most. dude i'm trying to transcribe chuck e's in love by ricki lee jones, and that famous fill that he does, i'm just having a headache getting it on paper.

Most influential?? If you're talking about the drummer that got the most guys to pick up a pair of drumsticks, then I'd say Travis Barker.

fav drummers???

Brain
Will Calhoun - Living Colour
Brad Wilk - RATM/Audioslave
Tim Alexander - Primus
Chad Sexton - 311
Mitch Mitchell
Steve Smith

When Steve Gadd was at his prime in his career, Travis wasn't even born yet i think. So i doubt he influenced as many drummers. Please suggest someone who is of age, you'd have a better guess at least.

Not favourite drummers. Most influential drummer. Who's the one in your opinion?
hmmmmm... influential in what sense? the rest of the drummer population? on any certain period of time? any particular music style? if u mean as in personally influencing me in general, then those guys are it... (even tho' i dun play the drums much) and if u mean having a new generation of drummers picking up a pair of sticks, then i feel Funkifized is correct.

strangely enough i just handed my reseach paper on the evolution of the drumset and influential drummers of the century. suppositely it was first chick webb, gene krupa, papa jo jones, max roach... who were they first influences. gene krupa's performance sing sing sing was what really brought the drums to the fore front. these guys in turn influenced buddy rich, max roach, elvin jones.........then comes the late 60's, 70's which saw just a slew of what is considered the "transition" of music from jazz as pop music to other styles becoming prominent like funk and fusion. styles like soul and funk were emerging with the likes of james brown, sly and the family stone, booker t and te mg's and the motown funk brothers. According to buddy rich, steve gadd was the leader in this field at this point in time in the 70's along with rick marotta, jack dejohnette, bernard prudie.........gadd was the next drummer to do wat krupa did for the drumset in the 40's. his performance and outro solo on the steely dan hit "Aja", brought the mainstream pop audience to notice the drums again. another not so famous land mark drummer of the 70's is feel is zigaboo modeliste, he influenced david garibald, don brewer of grand funk railroad and just abt every funk or soul drummer out there. benny benjamin, uriel jones and pistol allen were the motown trio that played on every motown hit as well their contribution cannot be over looked. the next generation wld fall upon dave weckl, vinnie coluita, dennis chambers, david garibaldi........sorry i can't remember if billy cobhams mahavishnu orchestra was in the 70's or 80's.
i wrote so much to show u all how smart i am hehehehehehe okie dun beat me if u see me ard. tat som bong!
